I've seen a few episodes of MLP, and they actually weren't bad.

 

They were however, rather emasculating and I personally enjoy parodies better.

The fandom could practically make up for any missteps the original episodes have. The first 2 episodes were nice, but I was a bit too dissapointed and spent a few weeks away from the fandom until coming back. It does improve in a major way over time - Season 2 and 4 in particular nailed it in quality. Overall, the episodes tend to hit around the B+/A- range. If you do hit the episodes, just make sure to skip Spike at your Service and It ain't easy being Breezies. >.>

Outside of informing spoiler-y things in S4, they're pretty much there to look badass for ceremonies and "guard" the place. Weakguards are weak. Not unless you count Shining Armor, I guess. o_O He's, uh, Gnarly. Flash Sentry is fairly adept at Waifu-Stealing.
