Welp, the Second Half was a good deal more enjoyable. It's one of the better 2-Parters, and it'll be interesting to see where they take this for the rest of the season.

I wish I agreed, made the same mistake with Twilight's Kingdom. They're giving away a hell of a lot of the plot elements beforehand - never had that problem with FttF, RtM, or Belle Toils and other ones they've previewed.

For the second half, I'd agree.

The episode is great, I just have to stop looking so hard into this bloody show.

And so it was, that in the fifth year of the Second Diarchy, the communist revolutionary Starlight Glimmer escaped to the boundless cave systems stretching beneath the depths of the Unicorn Range. In spite of the efforts of a special task force led by Shining Armor, prince consort of the Crystal Empire, Starlight Glimmer evaded capture until the end of her natural life.

 

Starlight Glimmer would wander the depths of the unicorn range for years, subsisting only on cave fungi and the occasional bat she could capture. She wandered until her sanity degraded to the point that she was willing to make a pact with a cosmic evil, using a ritual she learned from the writings of the mad zebra alchemist Alneighzred. After transforming into an alicorn, Starlight Glimmer declared herself to be the Princess of Equality, and conquered the nearby coal mining community of Pulmoneighry Canter where the applause for her coronation would last for 60 hours.

 

The inhabitants of Pulmoneighry Canter would become the first recruits of Starlight Glimmer's nightmarish Blank Flank Liberation Front, a brutal guerrilla army which used kidnapping, blackmail, and terror to spread their message of Cutie Marxism and reverence for the Things that dwell in the In Between Places. They became a pox on northern Equestria for 33 years, until the cave system where they made their homes was collapsed in a tragic hydraulic fracturing accident. Starlight Glimmer's power base would never fully recover.

 

After Stalight Glimmer's expulsion, Princess Celestia would install a new ruler in the village, in order to oversee the village's transition to friendship. Her name was PRINCESS %^&*ING STERLING SON! And for Princess %^&*ing Sterling Son, the ponies were eternally thankful.
