A few weeks ago, I started watching the cartoon show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic."

My sister had recommended it to me, and I was a bit skeptical, since the target demographic was clearly young, prepubescent girls.

However, I ended up really enjoying the pilot episode and ended up watched the rest of the first season.

Why did I like it? The characters were cool and relatable, even if they were all girl ponies. The art style is very easy on the eye. And plus, the plots are often more complex than your typical cartoon - the complexity is definitely up there with other shows like Hey Arnold!, for example.

I encourage everyone here to give at least one episode a watch, at the very minimum.

Let the posting begin!

I rather enjoy the show. it's got great writing and, unlike many shows aimed at a younger audience, doesn't talk down to the kids. i also think the show teaches a lot of good lessons about friendship and the support one can get from one's peer group, without those lessons coming across as preachy or overly moralistic.

Fluttershy is so adorable, it makes me squee. Manly squee, of course. :P

This is a general reminder that the rules of the forums still apply to this thread, so please, no direct links to any nudity or depictions of extreme violence. There was a fanfic that was quite violent and inappropriate whose link I had to remove.

Yes, so much win from Party of One.  I loved how it mirrored the old Pepe Lepew cartoons.
Applejack suddenly slamming Pinkie's face in the barn door was one of the best parts.

I just watched that episode. Pinkie Pie's growing insanity was hilarious, particularly her party with the "French" bag of flour! Just priceless!

omg Woo is a brony. We just became 20% cooler. And to stay on topic, Party of one is one of my favorite episodes. It really shows that Pinkie has more to her character than just being partytastic. There's depth, and an apparently harmable self esteem that's strongly based on how she thinks her friends feel about her.

Pinkie's boundless optimism and sense of fun is what makes her awesome. Even in the face of fear and terror, she needs to express herself. I'm talking the episode with Zecora the zebra and how Pinkie persuaded Fluttershy to sing Pinkie's scary Zecora song, because Pinkie's tongue was all swollen and she couldn't talk, let alone sing.

I thought it worked better with Fluttershy's deep manly voice and slow, swinging delivery.

Just a reminder that our Site Rules are still in effect here, so whether they're cartoons or not, depictions or links to videos of sex acts, are not appropriate for our community. You have been warned.

Let's cut down on the quote pyramids, please. Having so many of them indicates that it's getting a mite too chattery in here and the thread is in danger of violating rule #6 of our site Rules. let's keep it mostly discussion forum-y in here, everypony.

Seriously, folks. If you've got a quote pyramid 5 or 6 deep, and each one contains but a single sentence, and there are only two people in that pyramid, that's chatter, which becomes a violation of Rule #6 of our Site Rules (This is not a phone (or IRC)). So edit those pyramids down, make posts more than one sentence and line long, and/or allow other people to join the conversation before responding.

Inappropriate image (violation of Rule #7) removed.

I'd like to make painfully clear something that might have been far too subtly phrased before:

Hey, EternalAmbiguity, bobobo, LPPrince, remember all those warnings against making things all chatroom-y and IRC-y? That was for you. I'm all for having fun and making jokes, but if all of your interactions are going to be chatter, then you might as well go to an IRC channel to do it because we are still a discussion forum.

I hope that's clear.

Anyway, has anyone else here played any of the "Luna Game" series? those games are... different.

I have not, though I have seen references to them. Pray tell, what are these "Luna games" and what makes them awesome to one who enjoys ponies?

I have a question. What is the max amount of pages on a discussion thread before it gets closed?

It depends on how often the thread is being posted in, how many pages it's reached, ad how long it's been open. We used to chop threads at 100 pages, but now with much greater forum capacity, i will shut a thread down if it lasts a year, reaches 1000 pages, or goes days between posts, whichever comes first. Those are just general guidelines, so don't be surprised if a thread is closed for length just because.

Some off-topic and spam posts removed. Images and links should be on-topic. Even though Rule #2 is in effect for this thread, pony-themed links and images, even memes, are considered on topic.

Please remember to manage your quotes so that you're only quoting what you're directly responding to. Also, seeing the same image repeated multiple times across several pages makes me think of spam, so please take some care in your image quoting (ie. do it as little as as you can). Thank you very much.

Also, am I the only person who was thinking how unlikely Spike's transformation was, given that he's a) a baby dragon, B) not really all that selfish, and c) according to the show, just one covetous episode away from destroying Ponyville?

lilpip and luna kinda remind me of this old anime i watched a long time ago..

there was this spacetrain that went into space with this lil kid who ran around with a gun and his psuedo-girlfriend who was old enough to be his mother but wasnt cuz that'd be creepy and does anyone know what anime im talking about?...Or did my 8yr old brain process it differently from what it was?

The way it ended was, from my understanding, the lil kid wasnt the woman's "first" and that she'd been with guys younger and how it never works out so she leaves him..Man i'd really like to see that movie now. Maybe id understand it this time around.

You are likely referring to Galaxy Express 999.

Married to Apple Bloom??? i hope it means eventually, and not right this minute. That would be... inappropriate.

I suppose she'll inherit Sweet Apple Acres one day, or at least be a major part of it, and she'll be able to pass on the secret of Granny Smith's zap-apple jam, so i'll be patient.
