I was a huge fan of PPG growing up and I still love it. Foster's never really grabbed me. Rainbow Dash reminds me of Buttercup sometimes.

Rarity, Applejack, and Pinkie Pie are the wildcards.

At times I think Twilight Sparkle has more sense than Blossom.  Bubbles is more social, yet Fluttershy doesn't cry nearly as often.
Rainbow Dash seems to fit just right.
That's why I related to Bubbles the most actually.  I'm still a crybaby.

I've always thought of the CMC as being expies of the PPG.

Apple Bloom = Blossom, as the de facto leader and always wearing a bow in her hair.
Scootaloo = Buttercup, as the tomboy of the group.
Sweetie Belle = Blossom, as the more social but not always smartest one.

EDIT: Also, I should point that while Lauren was one of the primary creative forces on The Powerpuff Girls, the actual creator was her husband, Craig McCracken.
