So hypothetically speaking if this filly is Derpy's off spring, who is a pegasus, this would mean that the father would be a unicorn pony. I wonder how it is decided what the resulting filly will be, are wings recessive genes as opposed to horns?

One of the new episodes of Futurama had a premise like that. It was a pretty great episode. Also love how Dashie and Twilight got swapped in the picture.

Given this fandom you'd think it would be AJ and Dash to get swapped.

Actually, I think it should totally be random. (For example, I will NOT think out the following)

Twilight Sparkle gets Dash's voice and Pinkie Pie's coat.

Rainbow Dash gets Fluttershy's voice and Rarity's coat.

Applejack gets Rarity's voice and Fluttershy's coat.

Fluttershy gets Applejack's voice and Twilight Sparkle's coat.

Pinkie Pie gets Twilight Sparkle's voice and Dash's coat.

Rarity gets Pinkie Pie's voice and Applejack's coat.

There. Random as hell and hilarious.
