As for Dash's "sexual preference", I think it's pretty irrelevant. Sexuality doesn't really exist in MLP, gender differences are purely cosmetic, and I doubt the show will ever cover "where foals come from". Dash is a tomboy, for sure, and so is Applejack, but that's a legit personality for any girl. And girly girls can be lesbians too.

@Canadian: you certainly have a point there. Pinkie indeed is random. She serves as a comedy element, to entertain. Her very cutiemark already depicts this: partying, having fun, entertaining. Though she isn't just a flat character like that. Like the other ponies of the Mane Six, she also has her own background story. I do agree that she kinda bothered me in the 4th episode of Season 2, Luna Eclipsed (I think that was the title, yes?) I hope she wont be like that in future episodes as well. It would be a damn pity.
"Mane Six" ICWUTUDIDTHERE
All of them had their own backstories kind of covered in season 1 more or less, so yes they did build on the characters, however I still believe Pinkie Pie is more of an essential tool to the show for laughs and plots.

What bothered you about Pinkie in that episode? She totally embraced the spirit of Nightmare Night, and scampered around bein' scared of everything in sight—because it's fun. She is a big kid at heart, and she knew that Princess Luna wasn't ever an actual danger or threat, she was just having fun on Nightmare Night. Best line: "Too old for free candy? *gasp* Never!"

Well, as I was saying before, Pinkie indeed fulfills the role of 'comic' character in the show...many shows work with such a formula. She embodies light heartedness, so to speak. What bothered me in the Luna episode wasn't Pinkie herself, par say, just her behaviour in that episode. She was kinda annoying, what with all the screaming when it came to Luna, etc. But she compensated most of this at the end of the episode, when saying that it somztimes just is FUN to be scared. That was SO like her
Yeah, ponies always trip themselves up because they're taking Pinkie too seriously. Pinkie is NEVER serious. This is the pony who approached a sleeping dragon wearing swim fins. Pinkie Pie is fearless—except when it's fun!
BTW, you have the cutest sig line of all time.

What bothered me most is that, while her heart was in the right place and she knew Luna wasn't really a threat, she got the entire pack of kids and more than a few of the townsfolk to continue to be scared of Luna despite her trying to make amends. And as far as I can tell, apart from her and Pipsqueak at the end none of them were treating it as a joke.
I mean, there's a fine line between trolling and having a good time - as she does with her and Dash's pranks - and actively making a situation worse basically through ignorance. In this case, she was doing the latter.

I dunno, I never got the impression that the little ponies' fear was genuine. To me, she was deliberately misinterpreting everything she saw to keep the Nightmare Night scary fun going, for herself and for the kids. The kids know Pinkie Pie well enough to know that it's all make-believe.
