As far as fanfic rec's go, here's one.

I've only just started it myself, but it's good and the high concept seems to be Equestria meets Lord of the Rings, without being an outright crossover. Plus, I'm listening to Xanadu by Rush and that makes anything epic.

Since when is violence a problem? I thought we're all adults here, if we can handle the violence in BW games we can certainly handle some pixel gore on the forums.

It's probably the descriptions that did it in. "All That Remains" is more implicive than explicit. 

Of course, DA2 has people exploding in showers of blood and body parts...
