Also, while connecting a turtle/tortoise to a tank is a pretty obvious metaphor, and this is way too obscure of a reference to actually be something the team intended, this is a funny coincidence anyway.

Even though it was obvious from the beginning, both from the "episode aesop" perspective and the fact that one of Dash's toys came with one, I really liked how the tortoise became her pet. It wasn't some bog-standard "slow and steady wins the race" moral (moreover it's clearly pointed out that the falcon won by any definition), rather it was by being an exemplar of Loyalty. As Dash's Element, it makes perfect sense.

Moreover, it's something I can shove in the face of those bronies who complain that characters like Dash and Rarity are too [tall] or whatever. They're the two who have shown the most in terms of character development over the course of the show. 

And oh man, dat song. This is probably the closest the shows gotten to doing a Rodgers and Hammerstein-style narrative song, and normally I utterly hate that crap, here it [muddy foraging] worked. It being Dashie and 'Shy singing instead of Pinkie certainly helped - now I'm just hoping we get a Twilight solo down the line (and more singing from the above two). Throwing Ride of the Valkyries in over the canyon race (and a bit of Dashie whistling it) put the episode over the top musically.

Also like how Dash's "deal with it" shades are becoming a common accessory. They're a meme generation multiplier, along with the facial expressions that are getting better ever episode.

Only complaints are the lack of Scootaloo (I was hoping she'd at least get in an appearance, since the last two episodes focused heavily on the other two CMC) and that I'm afraid "Dash breaks her wings" fics may be back on. On the other hand, after getting one pinned beneath a boulder and only needing a bandage, you could view that was putting them to rest entirely.

Also, I'm sure this one is going to drive the Flutterdash and Sparkledash shippers crazy. But that's to be expected.

i noticed the ponies backlegs got redesigned. particularly when pinkie pie was jumping. they are cleft now? am i using the right term?

pegasi must be tough, her wing got pinned and all she needed was gauze tape. i think i see why when dash taps her chin it makes a clopping sound. shes tough as diamonds.

lol look at mlpfim's facebook page. everyone thinks scoots shoulda been dash's pet. no innuendo intended.

True. Her songs are just so ARGH. I have types 1 and 2 diabetes from too much Pinkie Pie.

And Also, the person that made that song is amazing. All their songs buck serious plot

Yup. Most of the rest of the mane cast don't sing except for the two crowd numbers (which is why the Rainbow and 'Shy duet came out of bucking nowhere, and was all the more awesome for it).
