heres something to throw you in a loop, how is coat color determined? why does pinkie pie have a pink coat while applejack is orange?

Well, the a-gene explains whymost unicorns and a pegasi can't have an alicorn baby, but I always figured that having the Aa genotype would just make one a carrier for the trait, without increasing one's special talents.  Celestia has stated that she and Luna are not native to Equestria, so I would assume that only royalty would carry the recessive allele of this trait.

Also, it seems to be implied that Prince Blueblood, a Unicorn, is descended from Luna.

As for coat color, in humans skin color is determined by a series of at least ten genes regulating the amount of a brown pigment in the skin.  While human skin can only make brown pigment, I would speculate that Equestrian ponies have the ability to produce cyan yellow and magenta pigments in different concentrations in a manner similar to the eay human genes control melanin concentrations, forming a genetic RGB slider.

TV Tropes actually specifically points that out as the primary source of your typical Hurt/Comfort shipping fic in this fandom.

Aside from the one faux movie poster (which was great, I might add), I've actually seen next to nothing referencing the rockslide from MtBPW.

Dunno, maybe Seth actually was serious when he said "Dash breaks her wings fics are now banned" after the Atomic Rainboom.

Eh, I've got the thread bookmarked 'cause it's interesting, but here's the Just Bugs Me (or whatever they call them now) page on TV Tropes as a summary:

Basically it's about whether or not the rest of the girls took things too far and whether or not they botched the aesop. In the case of the latter it's a lot like how I'm told the reaction to Feeling Pinkie Keen was (wasn't part of the fandom when it first aired). 

I do kinda think that they screwed up the message they were trying to send and that it seems like what happened in Lesson Zero with Twilight was completely forgotten, but some of that can be chalked up to the new writer.
