aww that episode was great! It totally had that season1 vibe to it.
although that part where rarity nonchalantly broils opalescence to make her look like she was sick was very reminiscent of those grimdark sweetiebelle fancomics after sisterhooves social came out where it implied that sweetiebelle was rarity's daughter.

you know, it seems like Rarity doesn't understand her connections very well.
She goes on throughout the episode about how she wants to be "high society" but she doesn't realize how strong of a connection she really has with her main group of friends.
Applejack is pretty much a business tycoon that sells produce.
Rainbow Dash is an up-and-comer all-star athlete.
Pinkie pie.
Fluttershy is an animal veterinarian that has experience such as nursing the Princess' PHOENIX and taming a DRAGON.
And Twilight Sparkle. The pony who got the PRINCESS, the same princess all her "high society" acquaintances aspire to be in her good grace, to give you A ROOM IN THE CASTLE.
Rarity has some strong connections.

I think it's a trend now that episode 8 of a season (Look Before You Sleep, Mare Do Well) gets sandwiched between two much more loved episodes (Dragonshy and Bridle Gossip, May the Best Pet Win and Sweet and Elite).
Twilight's dorky dancing. And her minor naievty with the two parties. She's so frigging adorkable. <3
Pinkie's party cannon. Dashie messing up with croquet. AJ's gardening. It's all perfect.
DAT SONG. I still prefer the duet from MtBTW and the ensemble songs, but as far as solo songs go (and although Twilight is most prominent in WWU I consider that an ensemble song) Rarity takes the cake.
I like how the ending, although admittedly still somewhat predictable, was a nice fake-out from what I was expecting (Rarity discovers how much she cares for her friends while the Canterlot ponies shun them, blah blah blah). I loved how Fancy Pants turned out to actually be pretty cool instead of an enormous tool like the other Canterlot residents we've been exposed to (the royals and Twilight's parents excepted, of course). Also, he has a badass zeppelin yacht.
More Wonderbolt names is also a nice plus. Would have liked to have gotten a speaking appearance of Soarin and Spitfire out of it, but since the group hadn't been seen at all this season it's all good.
All in all, not my favorite episode of the season, but still very good. Nice bounce back after last week to continue the trend of Season 2 behind head and shoulders above Season 1 (imo).
EDIT: Also, before this episode Fluttershy had moved ahead of Rarity on my best ponies scale (so 1. Twilight 1a. Dash 3. AJ 4. Fluttershy 5. Rarity 6. Pinkie). Not anymore.
EDIT REDUX: Also, Octavia and Bruce Mayne/Don Draper Pony showed up again. Nice.
