Yeah, sorry, I've stared at it enough that I've more or less gotten over it.
You should definitely play that game, though. It's really good. No screamers or bull**** like that, just classic Twilight Zone or Stephen King type skin crawling. 8-bit stuff has really got its own unique way of doing that - probably because by its nature it has to be more implicive and atmospheric than explicit.
EDIT: And no, the Apple Bloom picture is not from it. That's actually the one I was referring to earlier - it's from the Luna Game.

But yeah, the pilot is not really indicative of the rest of the series, as you can see. Kind of a shame, really, I think a few action-adventure or "myth arc" type episodes involving the Elements of Harmony here and there throughout the season would be nice.
Anyways, I would suggest watching "Sonic Rainboom" or "Applebuck Season" next. And if you don't mind the musical numbers (I mainly get through Pinkie's via the reactions of the rest of the cast, acting like she's gone insane, but the crowd songs are actually really good), "Winter Wrap Up" is another good one.

It's not like knock down drag out rolling-in-the-floor hilarious, but it is pretty funny. In one of the episode, two ponies who are having an argument have a sleepover at Twilight's house, and Twilight is all worried about it being the perfect sleepover. So when a large tree branch falls through her window, she gets out her camping book and looks through it to find out what to do. Eventually she says, "It's a tree, does it count as camping?" I think it's pretty funny, but it all depends on one's sense of humor.
Really, totally that last sentence. What some people absolutely love others are "meh" over, and visa versa.
