Got the U-verse summaries for the season finale:
"A Canterlot Wedding - Part 1: When Twilight Sparkle makes the discovery that her brother, Shining Armor, is getting married to the niece of Princess Celestia, Cadence, she feels incredibly confused by the conflicting feelings that she is overcome with."
"A Canterlot Wedding - Part 2: After Twilight experiences conflicting emotions regarding the marriage of her brother, Shining Armor, and Cadence, their wedding day draws nearer, but Twilight discovers a dark secret about the bride-to-be that changes everything."
..."Discovers"? What, did they not think to tell her?
I am suddenly curious about the "feelings", though.
u hear that? its the sound of a thousand ships set sailing into the night.

It's Word of Faust that alicorns embody the traits and abilities of all three pony sub-species - unicorn's general magic and the control of the cosmos, pegasus magic of flight and weather manipulation (among other things), and the superior physicality and land-based magic of the earth ponies. This merging of all three is what makes them them the God-Princesses of Ponykind.
Conversely, a pegasus unicorn would simply be a hybrid of said two races, without the traits of an earth pony. Pony genetics are fuzzy, made even fuzzier by the Cake twins, but if the Punnet squares line up correctly I see no reason why you couldn't wind up with a pegasus and unicorn having a child that has both wings and a horn (the Cake twins being a pegasus and a unicorn, respectively, born to a pair of Earth ponies, actually supports this).
tl;dr Cadence just has wings and a horn thanks to some fortunate genetics. Celestia and Luna are godlike beings representing the whole of ponykind.

I know, right? I think the "everyone hates Spike" subplot of FiW may have more truth to it than some would care to think.TheBlackBaron wrote...
It's actually kind of sad that he had to tape a cut-out of himself into Twilight's birthday photo.

Lauren's said they have an innate connection to the land that the other two races don't possess. It's a bit vague but I assume it's like a low-key version of what druids or rangers or some cleric domains possess in DnD.
There's a reason why in Hearths Warming Eve they were apparently the only ones who actually grew food.

So, I've been wondering if it's possible for a pony to be a pegasus unicorn with being an alicorn (as misapporpriated a name as that is for Celestia and Luna). This would allow for the existence of Cadence without necessarily affecting Celestia and Luna's status.

Where did the Alicorn name come from? If anyone knows.

Humorously, though, if you search "alicorn" on Wikipedia it takes to a disambiguation page, with links to both "the horn of a unicorn or is substance" and "a winged unicorn". I literally only just discovered this, though, and I suspect there may be an overactive FiM fan at work.

What, do you think it's like the time a whole bunch of Steven Colbert fans edited Paul Revere's wikipedia page to make it match Sarah Palin's story?TheBlackBaron wrote...
"Alicorn" is the medieval name for the material a unicorn's horn is made of. How the fandom came to use it as the name for whatever Celestia and Luna are, I have no idea.

Eh, people mess with Wikipedia for fun all the time.
I remember one Pittsburgh Steelers player's page was edited to read that his beard made the first recorded tackle by a beard in NFL history.

I think Lauren used that term herself at one point.

I've tried saying this before somewhere that the Alicorn isn't really the right way to refer to Pegacorns. Wikis page has been like that for 7 months at least my friends offline and i actually had this discussion around then too xD Last i looked it also noted the term was used improperly by the FiM community. Not sure if it still does though (going to check after post.)
in any case I just explained cadences existance like Athenas She obviously popped out of nightmare moons noggin. but jyou raise a good question can a Pegacorn exist that is not earthponyish >.>
Edit: Holy Apples that article got massively shorter and far more suspicious in 7 months. It was much longer than a Paragraph and a list 7 months ago (unless i'm recalling a different article)
