Yeah, all she had to do was hook a name to a location in Fallout. Wouldn't be too hard.
I on the otherhand have to come up with completely original names.
Good thing though-the difficulty in putting this together will force me to focus more and be diligent in my writing.

How do you want the names to sound?
That's the thing- the locations' names won't be completely horse/pony based(Canterlot, Ponyville, etc etc).
There's no running theme just yet. I may just go with names that make sense according to the history of the locale.
For example, I just came up with a wonderful name for an amazing location and I am absolutely giddy about it.

EDIT: It would seem my picture isn't showing. It's a picture of Dashie just so you all know.

Type the following- [ img ] (without spaces)
Then the url of the image you want to post immediately after that last ]
And immediately after the url post the following- [ /img ] (again without spaces)
Your image should pop up without hassle.

Links still are good to go though. I think the time before you can actually post pics varies.

Well, let's see...
You could use manipulations of biblical or other ancient city names because it'd be easy to get a list of them and many sound nasty (Antioch, Nineveh, Tarsus, etc..) but some of the Androids among us might get their panties in a knot..
Sometimes when making up names I think of a noun or verb that describes them, then use Google translate to put it in a foreign language, then simplify/mix it up some. I like to use Latin, but they got a ton on there. Latin always sound strong. Lol.
For instance:
English: Horse
One Latin Translation: Sonipes
Ponified: Sonipony
Time consuming, but I like the outcome better then any other method I know.

May use this strategy for a location or two.
Thank you very much Warlord.

Of course. I was thinking of writing a name mixer but I don't have vb or c or java on my home pc.

I realize that I'm trying to be so prepared that I'm actually writing more background story details than actually getting underway with the fanfic. Hah.
Delicate balance. I'm trying to leave some leeway for the fanfic to sound legitimate enough to feel canon without being uncanonized in the future.
My fanfic will take place during the current FiM timeline- not the past, not the future. This will be haaaaard. But the harder it is, the happier I think I'll be with the result.
Gotta challenge yourself as a writer. Helps you improve and leaves room to discover any flaws you may have that need improvement.

It could also be because you got so used to the unfinished version.
I think that may be part of it. Still, as of right now I think the WIP version was the superior one.
That opinion could change later on. Dunno.

My biggest problem right now is finding a way to make a couple of clashing things make sense. Something's got to give, and I gotta figure out what.
