Well, unlike with the cheap-ass blind bag toys, the model actually looks like him and the packaging used his actual vector from the show.

Besides, "Dr. (W)Hooves" was never really going to be something they could get past legal (unlike "Lyra") and the blurb about him mentions that he's in charge of Ponyville's clocks and all things "timey wimey". So they've basically outright said he's Dr. Whooves anyways.

Nah, the fail is that Hasbro(after the toy released) said that his name is really Dr. Hooves.

So its a toy's name versus Hasbro's retraction/retcon say-so.

I'll take the latter over the former.
