First off I'm not entirely sure if this topic has already been adressed. But with that aside I was looking for some input. Currently I'm doing another play through of Mass Effect 2 and was just about to start Garrus' loyalty mission. Usually I let him kill Sidonis without hesitation. But this time around I started to think of what could possibly come out of letting Sidonis live (benefit in ME3). Anybody have any thoughts?

It would let Garrus have less renegadedness.

True, but as a bigger picture is that good or bad. I mean with having the sequel center around such high stakes as mass genocide, would it be a beneficial thing to have the mental perception of a person with less/ more renegade attributes?

Well, you make the choices.

If you already have a playthrough where Sidonis is killed, you should let him live in this one, that way you will get to see what happens in ME3. That is if it does actually matter, and not come down to just another email that says "Thanks dude".

If your Shepard talks to Sidonis, they find out the mercs blackmailed him - this only proves Sidonis is a coward.
Letting Garrus kill Sidonis teaches him that any problem - physical and mental - can be solved with a gun and a well-placed bullet. Shoot first, ask questions later kinda thing.
Allowing Sidonis to live teaches Garrus to give people a second chance, to keep a cool head, and to get his facts straight before things get too out of hand. And most importantly, to get to know anyone before putting his life, and several other lives, in their hands. Sidonis was a casualty.
Either way you choose, Garrus is loyal. He trusts your judgement more than his own.

Does he still count as loyal for the purpose of surviving the SM?

Sidonis turns himself in to C-sec. You hear it in emily wong's news report. Or the background news report.

Loyal is loyal is loyal is loyal. What would make you think the game even has a "Loyal, but only for the purpose of walking around on the Citadel between 4 and 6 PM" category or whatever? It's a binary condition: they either are or they aren't.

Yeah, but I have lost the loyalty status of a couple of team members and they have died during the SM.

[SPOILER WARNING - do not read if you don't want to know how to manipulate the loyalty aspect of the game]
Loyal members can die in the suicide mission depending on what jobs you give them - not all of them are optimally suited for leading fire teams, sneaking through the vent, maintaining the biotic bubble, or holding the line while you destroy the human reaper. It's also possible, with certain crew members, to lose someone's loyalty after successfully completing their loyalty mission or to fail the loyalty mission (i.e. it ends without the squad member becoming loyal), but neither is possible with Garrus as far as I know - his mission is just a case of more than one way to end it in your favor.
Bottom line, sparing Sidonis will not get Garrus killed in the suicide mission, though other choices still might.

Honestly, I see it as a risk if you encourage Garrus to act so recklessly and it's EXTREMELY possible that he may even betray you because of it in ME3 (That is basing off the rumor that party members will leave you because of choices). He's already got the psych to be a good leader, but the only thing standing in his way is Shepard. You encourage him to be more reckless, shoot first and think second? That makes him arrogant, confident and... more likely to betray Shepard because he doesn't agree with his/her choice.

I just did a revised Loyalty mission for Garrus in which we allowed Sidonis to live. In MANY playthroughs this is the first time I tried that option. Felt good actually. That being said, in many playthroughs of ME3, with Sidonis being assinated, Garrus never ever betrayed my Shepard in any way. He is always as loyal as it gets. Hard to imagine that there might be a scenario in which that could occur. Wouldn't care for that very much.
