Wow!!

I'm on my 2nd play-through & discovered a neat trick. At the beginning of the game I bought a rune that causes enemies to drop more coin. Then I equipped 1 companion with the belt, string of pears, which cause enemies to drop more coin. Then I found an amulet & equipped another compagnion with coin return.

You hate to give-up an item slot for something like this, let alone 3, but these being stacking, the return is awesome! Now instead of enemies dropping 2 silvers constantly at the beginning, they now drop 2 silvers.

Unbelievable.

lol read through this: http://social.biowar...8/index/6741488 to understand how it works exactly.

Basically runes of fortune will increase the amount you get from things like gold from chests (e.g. instead of picking up ~10g you might pick up 12g).

edit: I think it may also affect drop rates but you just don't have enough gold increase% stacked yet to make a difference? Basically try dumping three runes into Fenris and seeing if there's a difference.

It does not affect drop rates.

The only thing that affects the amount dropped is the level at which you entered the zone for chests and what level you are when you killed the enemy. Even then, all occurrences of enemy drops are random.

You can increase the overall value of the items being loaded into the zone by first equipping items that "increase the level of items dropped" before entering that zone.  This will affect al the items in pre-set chests/caches for that zone, not creature drops as those are entirely random unless pre-set as well. (i.e. Swindler droping the rogue chest piece in lowtown during the Ashes quest.)
THIS IS A ONE TIME OPPORTUNITY TO IMPROVE THE "RANDOM" DROPS FOR EACH ZONE!

Rune of Fortunes will only affect the amount of coin looted while having them equipped on someone in the active party.

damn it afk! just tell em to read the FAQ instead of making me post a redaction to your fail. Now go get me a vente espresso so I can finish the bestiary tonight.

oh what are the chances! i edited my first post (which said it doesn't affect drop rates) to something incorrect. :(

I got that dodgy info from your guide btw :P

AKOdin's FAQ:
"8. I want to make the most of every drop. What if I kill enemies, and before checking their bodies, swap my current gear with my coin maxing gear? Will that work?
Yes, that would work. Whether it is worth your time up to you."

Because it does sort of affect drop-rates (e.g. the arcane horrors or whatever on sundermount?). But I suppose it doesn't for the random mob?

you worded it wrong.

you said rates as in the number of occurrences rather than the amount dropped. Which it doesn't affect either. RoF affects the amount LOOTED. Big difference.

oooh,. Was that the part you were correcting. Same difference haha.

Okay fair enough then. It only affects drop-amounts

I meant that, obviously the coffee hasn't kicked in yet :/

still not getting it. The amount dropped by any creature is determined by the random loot tables that change/improve depending on your current level and the +level gear, which affects those loot tables directly, you have equipped. The RoF only affects the amount looted from that drop. The RoF is simply a +% to the amount of coin you happen to be looting. It does NOT affect or influence the amount of coin dropped.

The Arcane Horror during "Long Way Home" is going to drop 6 gold regardless of how many RoF you happen to have equiped.  The one RoF the guide directs you to place on Varric's armor will grant a 10% bonus to that gold only when you loot it.  That exact moment is the only time that RoF has any impact on the amount of gold that creature dropped.  Which is still none as it is only affecting the amount you are looting.

This may sound like semantics, but believe me when I say that having repeated my words over and over to those asking about the mechanics, it matters how you say it so that even the layman that is going to read this thread a year from now will know exactly how it works.

Thanks for clarifying. :)

That makes sense. Though amount picked up/amount dropped is pretty much the same in my mind haha
Well, I just use coin glitches nowadays (saves me having to try to cart along companions everywhere for their runes of fortune) but at least I know now to link them to your money guide and leave it at that haha

Well, have fun with the bestiary. I'm going to go play some neverwinter nights 2 now :D

Yeah. It's one of the things I don't like about it. :(

But I still haven't finished it (still on first playthrough) and my seriously overpowered mage has finally got enough points to go into shadow dancer and pick up hide in plain sight!

Exciting times, if only dragonage allowed that degree of class mix-matching...

Hey! Were you aware, if you take the time to look, you have some very usefull URL's listed, SuicidalBaby? :)

Thanx all, yes I'm not very well versed in the mechanics department; with that said though, I am good at left clicking...working on the right.

I try not to look down there as it is a reminder of hours upon hours of typing with a ps3 controller.

Thankfully I have my new Toshiba laptop and no longer have to drudge through that inane visual keyboard.
