I know I may be alone in this, but I think the Reapers are in danger of being somewhat 'overused' as well. I get that they're important to Commander Shephard and all that, that makes sense, it's just that considering nobody really believes in their existence or what-have-you, their technology does seem to crop up more than just the Citadel or Mass Relay's. I mean, look at the First Contact War, it was basically waged over the Arca Monolith.

I feel bad for Cerberus. They deserve better then what they're getting.

I'll hate BW forever if we can't save Cerberus in ME3. Most people hate them, but they are the reason that a Human Dominant ending even exists (it better exists).

Well, first post in this forum, I find this topic interesting for many reasons:
1. Shepard allying with cerberus was necessary for the darker and edgier feeling of Mass Effect 2.

2. While small players in Mass Effect 1, their experiments proved they had state of the art technology and were capable of reviving Shepard for Mass Effect 2.

3. This type of sudden plot prominence or new bad guy isn't uncommon in all forms of media. It's what TvTropes (Sorry for using this page in particular) calls a Two Part trilogy. God of War, Prince of Persia, Pirates of the Caribbean, Back to the future, Star Wars, and even Phoenix Wright have this "syndrome." The first installment was standalone, but the second and third have to introduce or change aspects of the first to have a viable plot. Cerberus happened to be that in Mass Effect, which is the reason why they suddenly very powerful.

4. While I haven't read any of the expanded universe, the reason why cerberus have been very prominent is because they are a threatening organization in the games (of course to some they are not very intimidating). This is why the Blood Pack or Blue Suns are not the bad guys in novels, they are just Shepard fodder.

5. The Reapers are enigmatic and uncanny, and popular media needs to some extent a tangible and recognizable group of enemies, like the stormtroopers in Star Wars instead of only the emperor.

I agree with RLYGUYS, Cerberus as a faction is more than capable of filling in the 'stormtrooper' element of the story and besides in order for the Reapers to keep their mysterious/enigmatic element you can't fight them all the time during the game. So you need another fore to keep you occupied and challenged.

Cerberus could turn out to be a rather influential group in regards to the ultimate fate of Earth and the Galaxy, so they should in my opinion play out a more prominent role in the story and game play. Thats what I think any way.
