Remember, if we make a big enough noise, Bioware might hear us.

Some have multiple account good for them,  is very nice to see so many votes for silent PC with 190+!  sadly it doesn't matter.. Bioware is going to stick to voice:P  ROFLMAO:lol:

The same can be said for the other side, so it evens out in the end.

And I am not overly optimistic here, I don't expect DA3 to be Silent (though that would be the best thing ever!), but, like everthing else on this forum, this is a place to voice your opinion on which you prefer, and i am certain Bioware is grateful for the discussion and input on this thread. I prefer Silent. I want to fight for silent, get my opinion up there. Then maybe Bioware will change in the future if enough people make noise. In the end, i may leave Bioware for good if they never bring back the Silent PC.

Only haters are voting, multiple accounts, 4chan trolls, ..., ... and many many more - those are universal arguments here for any occasion. Don't be surprised seeing it contantly.

Voiced, but I would prefer to either read exactly what is to be said, or see just the Icon for the tenor of the speech. Choosing one phrase, but saying another with an occasional misfire of intent is rather irritating.

This, with an option to turn the PC voice off would probably be the ideal solution, IMO ;)

Also, you're wrong about the players wanting to have the line to feature some intent "other than what's provided".  With a Silent protagonist, the intent ISN'T provided at all.  you're not contradicting the game by making up a different intent, because there is no extant intent there for your intent to be different from.

Your belief that the author's intent persists within the game after the game has been written is entirely foundationless.  It's the language that speaks, not the author.  And the language, once written, exists independently.

That's the way I view it as well. Without a voiced protagonist there are no limitations to the intention you can give to a line. There is no hidden restriction or rule that has to be made clear by the use of voice.
If the intent doesn't match with the answer given by the NPC that's simply due to a misundertanding. There were a few times in Origins where I got unexpected answers, but that doesn't mean that I chose the wrong answer, or that it wasn't sufficiently explained. It means that the NPC didn't understand what my character was trying to say.

But even if a voiced protagonist were better for role-playing purposes I don't think it's use is justified, especially for a game that is lacking in so many areas. Waste of money and disc space in my opinion.

Often hear this pretty weak comment, with absolutely no grounds in reality.

I'm open minded about the inclusion of a voiced protagonist in DA3, but it has to be handled way better than was managed in DA2 (those misleading paraphrases and mood icons were just horrible).

This.. For these reasons.

1. Less game resources/disk space spent on all the VA files for a PC can be better spent creating a more interesting, broader game.
2.  I find it adds nothing to the experience. If anything, it takes away, especially if a person either doesn't like the voice.
3. I can pretty much play or imagine a PC's voice in my own head, and often, voiced PC's voices simply do not fit with whatever I might have pictured, or want to picture, for my character. It takes away a certain RP element that I miss.
4. Dialogue wheel. It seems the only time this irritating, annoying feature exists is with a voiced PC, and I'd like to see this gone.

Silent protagonists should stay in the past where they belong.

Honestly hearing half a conversation is very strange.
Like in Fallout 3 and New Vegas where I was constantly wondering why no one commented on my Courier somehow being telepathic and being able to transmit his thoughts into their brain.

It worked in Morrowind since no one had a voice but if everyone else is talking I dont find it very fun to play a mime.

Silent won't come back, for good or for ill.

So I personally advocate having less awkward middle PC like Hawke and Shepard, and more fixed protagonists. We could still influence their perceptions, values and goals, but they'd have the same basic personality.

For the issue of gender, have two origins. Two fixed characters with different genders.

And?

Chell can talk she just chooses not to ****** off Glados.
She does not operate under a dialouge system at all either.

But hey if you want to play a mime go right ahead.

Ahh those old-fashioned Bethesda dudes. I wonder how they manage to sell millions of games every time.

I much prefer the middle ground to a protaganist with a fixed persona.

You need to dig the forum, am not doing that for you, maybe someone also could link you the post from bioware staff/writers about the VO and DA;)

This is why the OP wants everyone to make noises about, to change bioware minds and go back to mute.

If this VO for future DA titles was unfounded then why the OP ask the fourm to make noises about it? why there is always 20 polls asking for mute or voice.. anyway, this is the only one that has more for Mute... so yeah make me wonder who has alot of times to create alot of accounts to vote..

Quoted for the truth. As much as I wish silent to make a comeback.. yeah, not going to happen. And the Hawke/shepard-middleground is just horrible.

yeah you know ... i asked about that link to "Silent is not going back.Period" post few times already - "someone else is going to give you that link, I can't remember it now" is all i can hear. Great.

At least when I post something like "they said xyz" i always have some link ready to back it up.

HOWEVER, somebody suggested in the Community Discussed Thread that they should add something like a Voice toggle(or something like that), to remove the voices if you like, and he said that they will consider it.
i don't know where it is, but i'll look for it.

Fallout games, Elder Scroll games, Zelda games, Half Life series, Metroid series (except the diastorous Other M), Mario games to name just a few. Do I really need to go on?

You can complain that silent protagonist are boring etc but to say they're dated is plainly wrong. ;)
