I don't think I've actually played 10 RPGs, or at least 10 RPGs worth of making it into the list, so I'll just list the ones I feel are worthy:

Top 3 in NO particular order, a threeway tie (and also my three favorite games overall)

I cheated and included expansions to expand (no pun intended... ) the list. Though I ain't including Hordes of the Underdark because I haven't finished it (and I haven't liked it as much as the others). And that would be it since the other RPGs I've played (Dungeon Siege for example), were not to my liking at all.

I would argue "Planescape: Torment" does not allow as much freedom in action and character development as the "Fallout" or "Deux Ex" games; or "Arcanum" and "Bloodlines" for that matter. The story in PST is arguably superior to those games. Characters have more lines of dialogue and deeper depths to explore, but that does not objectively make PST the superior RPG. The reason I chose BG2 over it despite that game having fewer options was because it was more memorable to me personally. Plus I could play as a woman and tackle the adventure with friends, if desired.

So yes, it is arguable. Anything subjective is.

It was hard to choose, I wish I could place Baldur's Gate or Fallout 3 or Final Fantasy VII. But Bioware's most recent game would be close to the top 10, because they aren't real RPGs anymore. It's my protest for them dumbing down the RPG mechanics.
