Sorry if this has been answered previously.
I own ME1 on Steam. I've downloaded BDtS and received my CD key from EA support. When I try to install it I get a "Mass Effect is not found" error. Running it as admin delivers the same message.
Now my Steam folder is on a separate/custom partition. The DLC installer is very basic and doesn't provide options for alternative directories. I can open the DLC with PeaZip and see all the upk files and dll's. Can I just extract this stuff and copy it manually to a sub-folder in my ME install directory? If I need to create sub-folders, which folders would I require? For ME2 it's BioGame > DLC.
"Bring Down the Sky" manual installation?

Have you run ME1 since installing via Steam? If not, then do so, as Steam does not write the required registry copies until its run the first time. Once youve run it, then you should be able to install BDtS.
If thats not the case, you can try the advice contaied in this posting.

Yes I've been playing the game actually. I've gone into the registry and my ME1 CD key is there.
So I'll have to look into creating a script or something (all Greek to me). Or not. I'll see how it goes.
thx

Ok, so here's an update.
After some fiddling the installer found my ME installation but notified me that said installer didn't support the English language (at which point I took a break and walked away from my computer).
Returning to the problem (some time later), I found a post on the Steam forums by user DJ Thunder Face which provided me with most of the solution.
Run regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > Bioware > Mass Effect
As per the venerable DJ Thunder Face:
Create three new string values.
1. "Flavour" with the data set "steam". Yes, use the British spelling of the word.
2. "language" with the data set "en".
3. "Path" with the data set being the path to your Mass Effect folder. e.g. "c:\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\mass effect".
I hope this helps someone else.
