Any chance we'll be able to start M/F romances with returning characters as well?

Just a random thought I've been having for a while: assuming most (if not all) of the returning romancables will also be available for S/S romances this time, shouldn't it be relatively easy to have those exact same romances for the straight folk as well?

The way I see it, certain characters become more interesting for Shepard to romance from a story perspective after they've had their respective character development. Par example: Liara after she's lost her moral innocence, Miranda after she's rebelled against TIM, and possibly Kaidan/Ashley after taking a level in badass.

From a game development perspective, I don't see this being any more difficult than the dialogue writers unchecking the flags that indicate these romance dialogues as Manshep/Femshep only. Or checking both, if that's how the system works. The only possible expection to this would be Liara, because there probably isn't a new romance planned for her in the first place, due to her going both ways from the beginning.

Thoughts?

I don't think there's any fear of returning characters remaining available to the opposite sex. If femShep ignored Kaidan in ME1 but decides that she wants him in ME3, he'll probably be open to that option. (Your mileage may vary, of course, because Kaidan won't go for it if you have another LI, but I can definitely see circumstances where Kaidan agrees to hook.up with femShep even if they didn't get together in ME1.)

I doubt that all of the old live-interests will return as same-sex options.

I can see no good reason for het options to be locked out when s/s ones are allowed.  It would be a waste of zots and a PR nightmare on top of that.  I don't know anyone who would want them to be locked out and frankly I don't want to know them.

More choices for everyone:wizard:

There should be and option to do that. Not everyone was hot to get Ashley, Kaidan, or Liara. I ahve some shepard's who didn't want to romane subordinates, but equals and now they're equals with Shepard so they might want to start anew.

I doubt all past LIs will be available to romance newly in ME3 (s/s or o/s).

The few that are should be available to both genders of Shepard. Especially if Kaidan and Ashley are the ones open to s/s, as it's more likely that players who started the series at ME2 will have the o/s VS alive in their saves. It would be dumb if they only added a new s/s romance for them.

I don't see why not. The dialogue could even be similar between new s/s and delayed o/s romances by having the LI state that they didn't think Shepard was interested in them earlier. I'm all for everyone being able to actually fulfill the "to each his own" wisdom.

I just don't want ninjamancing,I have a "don't ask don't care" policy, I'm all for chatting and getting to know my crew, but I don't want to go to Kaiden and all of the sudden he is pissed that I'm involved with Jack(among others)

If you do it via the comic then sure...but not starting something brand new.

"Is it possible in #ME3 to romance characters that WERE available as LIs in ME1/2 but we didn't romance them back then?"

"#ME3 Good question. The answer: Some, but not all."

Seems like we got an answer to this one after all. Image IPB

It seems possible, but I'm not sure how likely it is. In order for it to be coherent, they'd need to account for:

a) Shepard and the returning character never had any attraction of any kind
B) Shepard dumped the returning character (at the lockers in ME1, or before the relay in ME2)
c) The returning character dumped Shepard (refused to be the second leg of a triangle)

All those states would make the initial conversations in any new romance look very different, and at least in the ME1 saves, the saved data doesn't appear to have anything like that level of granularity.

I suppose it's something that could come up in the trial ("Shepard, what about these rumors you were involved with the VS?" Choose one: "Yes"/"No, we're colleagues and friends"/"We were, but I ended it"/"We were, but the VS ended it"), but barring that kind of question, it would be tricky at best to write in a way that feels natural. A s/s romance, on the other hand, you only need to write one thread from the beginning, since an existing LI can only have one relationship with Shepard coming into ME3.

That said, they'd probably catch an awful lot of crap and it would be out of character for them anyway; I'm sure every s/s LI will also be available for o/s in some basically equivalent form.
