So I'm starting a new run and I got quite a few jollies out of Rival-ing Anders and Merrill last time. So much so that now I can't get enough Rival. So my question is - what would be the best way to bump everyone to Rival save Aveline and Varric? (Seb doesn't count)

The Letter you get from Feynriel's Act 1 Quest can lower everyone's approval but Isabela's and Fenris.
Letting Kelder live in Magistrate's Orders annoys alot of people too.

Otherwise, their personal quests.

Blackmailing Thrask also gives rivalry with everyone except Fenris.

That's the letter I was talking about. And Isabela doesn't approve or disapprove.

Well with Anders, obviously spitting on his cause will get you those rivalry points quickly. Fenris, helping or supporting mages early is the way to go, by the time you get to Act 2, there will be almost no turning back. Of course you cant take Anders while you do that.

Wassat?

Right. I have Merrill handled - she is ludicrously easy to Rival. I trolled the **** out of Anders last time rather easily too. My real problems are how to troll both Fenris and Anders - because last time I hit Friend with Fenris very easily due to the Anders trolling - and Isabela, because I rarely have her in the party and thus don't know what she likes/dislikes

I finally caved and started hacking my game just to boost Friendship/Rivalry to see the different reactions. The script is runscript zz_app_debug if you're a cheating bastard like me.

But I've rivalled most of the characters for real. Recently I just did Merrill, and I'm sorry, being mean to her is like kicking a kitten and leaving it out in the rain. I just can't do it, though it was kinda amusing to see her get all angry and call me shemlen. I still need to try to rival Varric, and if it's possible, Aveline (I know it's possible, but it just seems like an awful lot of work). I wonder how rival!Varric is... hrm!

It's my understanding that rivalrying Isabela is something of a pain, due to the limited number of points available. Generally speaking, she seems to gain rivalry points when Hawke plays the hero, turns down/doesn't ask for payment or doesn't leave people to choose their own way.

More specifically, read this.

Rivalling Varric hurts my heart. I just can't do it.

Looks like there's 65 points of rivalry with Isabela in act one alone:

Trolling everyone will take some planning but I'm sure it can be done.

Fenris and Carver are the EASIEST to rival. Simply act pro-mage with obnoxious abandon (which is so much fun).

I've had a hard time gaining enough rivalry with Merril and Anders. though

Well, I'm half convinced it's not physically possible to do anything BUT rival Carver. He seems dead set on it. And rivaling Fenris is hilariously easy, all you have to do is be nice to people (sans slaves). lol

I SUGGEST

Go completely Hostile Hawke. Red-anser it, all the way. It's.. histerical. Annnnd everyone rivals you all over the place, except Fenris, which makes it funnier, because he's tots like "YEA WHAT SHE SAID" *fistbump*

Well... to get friendship points with Carver just act like the best templar Meredith could imagine and he will like you... a bit. But don't expect him to stop ****ing around :D

Hmmm funnest troll I think for Fenris is taing Orana and telling him slaves are useful. My Hawkes do it out of spite for him assuming they would ever force someone into slavery. This will also rival anyone else in your group that isn't maked. It's universal hate. (I don't do it just because seeing Fenris rage and sear in Teven is incredibly hot. No, no that's not me. :P) Also a fun extra scene if you troll Janders by threating to let the Sloth demon eat Feynriels brain during the nightmares quest. mass rivalries and fun extras are always pleasant.
