Playing BG1 and I'm looking for a shop that has decent inventory. I know of the two in the gate district, and then another one that was "hidden" sort of in the corner of a map behind the wall, but are there any others that would have some good items?

Is the location of shops considered a spoiler... perhaps not?
Remember the guy at the start that offered to help you get Imoen back for money?... Look up stairs.

the area where you arrived in Atkhatla is full of shops. There are boots with merchants in front of them, but some of the better ones are behind doors. The best of them has a hawker standing outside trying to find customers, so it shouldn't be that hard to find.

I think he means in BG1, in the city itself.
There aren't really any shops that offer good items outside the gate district. Looking at Gamebanshee, there's:
-A shop in the northeastern-most part of the city, just north of the Counting House. It doesn't sell much but it has many potions on its shelves that you can steal w/o consequence if you want.
-In the southwestern part of the city (the one with the Flaming Fist Fort), there are three shops. One is the red building next to the Merchant League, one is the building facing the first shop, and the third is behind the Seven Suns. The first sells lousy items, and the other two sell "great" potions, although I don't remember anything special.

Only 2 shops really worth considering in Baldur's Gate: Sorcerous Sundries, and the girl in the thieves' guild. The others are just miscellaneous potions and junk items.

Thanks, and yes, I meant Baldur's Gate 1... in Baldur's Gate. Kind of confusing, I suppose.
The link Gate70 posted is what I've been using. Most of these shops I already knew about.

Sorry, I got sucked in by ussnorway's reply talking about events in BG2, should have used my eyes better and see the question is in the BG1 forum. Sundries and inside the thieves guild are indeed the only worthwhile shops. Though you could go to the other stocks if you already bought all of the potions of the type you want in the Sundries.

There's a wizard in High Hedge that sells spells etc. - and they're good spells as well
Also, try talking to every chicken you meet. It may talk back

The Inn in Ulgoth's Beard also has some nice gear. It's the only place you can buy 4th level spells before chapter 5.
