I feel the same way. Her new look is fine for out of combat situations, or hanging out on the Normandy. But when the shooting starts, I hope to see her pull her hair back and put on some nice thick armor.
You're not.
She was also attractive in a t-shirt and cargo pants.
That's the cool thing about Ash, she'sthat rare female character who's hot without looking or dressing like an adolescent fantasy ::cough::Miranda::cough::

Because for starters it isn't comfortable for women to have their hair tied up in a bun all the time. No one does that.
o rly?
Rly.
Come back to this thread when you get a GF and no longer need to ask how we know that Ashley doesn't wear her hair in a bun 24/7.I think getting shot because you can't see through your hair is a lot worse than the "uncomfortableness" of tying up your hair in combat.
I agree that having her hair in a bun while in combat is more practical.
But those who are claiming that Ashley's hair being in a bun is somehow a reflection of her personality, and that her hair being down is somehow 'unrealistic,' are wrong.
Having her hair down in combat--in very light armor, no less--is very out of character and extremely impractical.
Having her hair up in a bun--aka, military regulation--would be heavily ingrained in to her by now. She's from a long line of military tradition. And she's a pragmatist. Go figure.

In combat, sure.
Out of combat is a different story. When I was in the Marines I didn't serve with women directly (they are barred from serving in a combat related MOS), but I've run into plenty on base & out in town. They generally do not wear their hair up when off duty.
Ashley having her hair down while on the Normandy or say, in Afterlife on Omega isn't necessarily out of character or unrealistic.

You asking how we know that Ashley doesn't wear her hair in a bun all the time sort of implied that.
No one wears their hair in the bun all the time, and neither would Ashley.

Indeed.
I can see her keeping it in a bun just because it's easy to keep out of the way while working. But she couldn't keep it that way all the time, even if she wanted to.
I mean, she'd have to let it down for cleaning and brushing at the very least. And having it loose would be easier to maintain off-duty. There's a reason why "let your hair down" is a term for informality.

Seriously, do you actually believe that?
Have none of you ever stopped to figure that the reason why she has had her hair in a bun until now is because, hey, she's in the military and adheres to military dress codes because that is expected of her, and that when off-duty (or in a position where she can make up the damn rules, such as when being a Spectre), she might want to keep her hair down and spruce herself up just because she f***ing can.
But no, it's not in line with her personality.
Well said, couldn't have said it better myself. Also, just because she's tomboyish, doesn't mean she absolutely doesn't like looking like a girl sometimes.
Look at Meryl Silverburgh in MGS4, all throughout her appearances in the first game and the last up until the very end, she didn't wear intrinsically feminine clothing. But then at the end for her wedding, she wears a very feminine wedding dress and had her hair all prettied up. And that went completely against her personality up until she falls in love with Johnny Sasaki.

I
disagree, I've worn shirts that don't reflect my interests or
personality. I try to stay away from that, but that's just because
people just assume that one wears a NASCAR shirt means they like car
racing and/or are a redneck.

Right, but I'm talking about in combat. We see in one of the E3 demos that she's clearly in a combat zone...and her hair is completely down. She's also wearing very light armor, which kind of goes against everything we know about the Soldier class and Ashley's personality.
Even if it's just an isolated incident, I still think her new look is ugly. What I found attractive about her in the first two games...is kind of gone (looks-wise).

If that's her combat look, I will rage. And it will be with the fury of a thousand exploding suns.
If that's her "casual" outfit. I still don't care for the outfit (hair is fine though), but I can live with it. Hopefully there's be an alternative with black tshirts and pants.
But for combat, hair pulled back, thick armor, big guns. Nothing else will do.

Though I hope she pulls her hair up in battle that suits the soldier Ash I knew unless she's changed completely....
Does anyone seriously think BW will give Ashley two hair dos? IMO it's highly doubtful. Covering one eye, blowing in the wind, getting caught on things Ashley hair is what we'll have to put up with throughout the game.

No idea who the character is but FYI what a woman wears on her wedding day is usually vastly different from how she dresses day to day. Call it a holdover from the princess stage most girls go through.

But then i have only seen screenshots and such (not even a gameplay of her), so i am not too worried, i think she will be better in the actual game.
And lastly, I don't really care because she is dead in my canon game.

As for the appearance in the screenshots, I agree that it's nice... for a casual look. Hair and clothing choices are an expression of your personality. It says a lot about your preferences and how you feel about yourself. Many of the women in the military (even the career girls) that I know have an off duty look that can seem vastly different than their on duty uniform look. To try and determine what a girl would or would not wear out of uniform just by how she looks in the uniform is presumptuous and shallow. From conversations with Ashley (mostly just in Mass Effect), she is kinda girly, out of uniform. So, the long hair rings true for me. Though, once she's in uniform, she's a soldier and nothing more/less. That's training.

Face looks a little goofy, but it's an early model. Yeah, she's ditched the heavy armor, but she, uh... still kind of looks like she can kick my ass. A lot. Like, I won't have an ass left when she's done kicking it. That woman is serious f*ckin' business, and every bit a soldier. Just more stylish.

I always thought it was because she had enough common sense to realize that entering a potential battlefield with vision-obstructing hair is an incredibly stupid (not to mention easily preventable) tactical mistake.
Being a spectre is a pathetic justification for one to sacrifice combat viability for personal appeal in conflicts.
Skorpious is right Ash even said it her self it went something like this
Kaidan: "those asari commandos are amazing they have such speed and great biotic talent"
Ash: "unless that speed can outrun bullets im sticking to a nice solid armor and a big gun"
you have been disproven

Kill that outfit with fire.
She looks less like a Spectre and more like a Spectre's secretary, which is wrong on many many levels. Complete with a nice "shoot here" V-neck. At least it's not as bad as Samara's, I guess.
At any rate, Ash doesn't wear that outfit off the ship with me. At all. She wears Phoenix armor again before that happens. The hair looks nice, if impractcal. But I'm waiting to see what her armor looks like.
