Kill that outfit with fire. [smiley removed]

She looks less like a Spectre and more like a Spectre's secretary, which is wrong on many many levels.  Complete with a nice "shoot here" V-neck.  At least it's not as bad as Samara's, I guess.

As much as I'm in the HEAVY ARMOR FOR EVERYONE camp, I never had a problem with Samara's outfit.  I think it's because she crushed a fully armored merc's trachea with her heel.

And I'm really not getting the "Spectre's secretary" vibe.  For one thing, the lines and circles on the uniform look like they are supposed to hook up with some sort of armor.  For another, the outfit isn't super-tight or fetishy.  Yeah, it's got a v-neck.  So what?  Thane has more cleavage than her.  And she's got flat shoes!  Seriously, this thing gives off enough of a "future military space super operative" vibe to satisfy me.

She WOULD, however, look cooler with thirty pounds of ceramic slapped on top of it.  Because armor is badass, sexy, and practical.

See, if there's one thing I've learned over the summer, it's that you can pretty much wear anything and get away with it if you can kick enough ass.  The ladies in Sucker Punch all dressed like, well, prostitutes.  Captain America looks like a serious nerd.  But they kicked serious ass, and I wouldn't mess with any of them.  It's not realistic, no, but I don't take the characters any less seriously.  (Miranda was an exception for me because she never seemed competent or confident enough to get away with dressing like she did, and didn't go for the whole "looks as a weapon" thing either.)

At any rate, Ash doesn't wear that outfit off the ship with me.  At all.  She wears Phoenix armor again before that happens.  The hair looks nice, if impractcal.  But I'm waiting to see what her armor looks like.

Ooh, she gets armor, too?  Awesome.

Anyway, the fact that you are demanding she wear something else seems slightly more inherently... misogynistic?  Unless you plan on making Thane zip his jacket, too.

Really, my only beef with this look is that her hair looks way too much like Miri's.  Very similar length, color, and style.  Always imagined Ash with really curly, raven-black hair for some reason.  Yeah, I'd prefer heavy armor, too (since that's the Ash I know and love), but I won't whine too much if I don't get it.

Samara's armor was fine, if only it had a zipper...

As for Ash, compare what Tela Vasir, another female Spectre wears.  Or Kaidan's.  Ash's outfit simply doesn't compare.  It just doesn't look like something you'd wear into combat.  More like something you'd wear under the armor.  It's not a catsuit, but it's closer to "tinfoil miniskirt and thigh high boots" than I'd like.

Agreed on all counts ;)

Why am I suddenly recalling the Firefly episide where Jayne got a hat from his mother, and Wash comments "You see a man walking down the street wearing something like that, you know he's not afraid of anyone"...

Casey Hudson tweeted that she'll get armor and a helmet.  How much truth there is to that remains to be seen...

There were several characters in my ME2 playthroughs who did not see the light of day outside their loyalty missions.  Thane was one of them.  Jacob another (he really needed more ceramic plates) Miranda too,  pre AAP.  Basically if I wanted a biotic on my team I had to use a textmod Samara.

Ash is my litmus test for ME3.  If they do well by her, I'll take it as a good sign that they're taking the game and the universe seriously, and this isn't just a money grab.  That means functional-looking armor.  Hair that looks practical, not just an excuse to go "look what we can do with hair now!"  and so on.

I wouldn't say "ugly", but the hair bothers me. Hair in the face bothers me in real life on real people, so on a soldier? Come on. I prefer regulation haircuts, it's just something I have trouble suspending disbelief with. There was one option for the new default femshep that had half her face covered with hair and I'm glad she wasn't picked. I don't care if it's short or long, but get it out of your face!

Well, ash has always been pretty homely.

Anyway, I don't care what her clothing is.  We have shields and barriers to justify sexy combat clothing.  However, Ash's hair is ridiculous for her.  She'd never wear it like that in a fight.

I think she's attractive. Not-a-goddess-she-has-no-imperfections-because-she-is-a-video-game-character perfection, but still modestly attractive.

Why are gamers so freaking shallow?

Her ****** are the source of her power.

Okay, just kidding.  Her duds weren't exactly combat-practical, but really, with DEM BIOTICS, she could run around naked and come out unscathed.  And frankly, I'm not going to tell her to cover herself up.  It might be hazardous to my health.  Besides, it would feel sort of disrespectful to do so.

That's what I said: it looks like it would hook up to armor.  By itself, no, not ideal combat gear, but it does seem like Serious Business.  As in not strictly eye candy.

Agreed on all counts [smiley]

Damn skippy.

Why am I suddenly recalling the Firefly episide where Jayne got a hat from his mother, and Wash comments "You see a man walking down the street wearing something like that, you know he's not afraid of anyone"... [smiley]

Because it is too awesome not to recall.

Casey Hudson tweeted that she'll get armor and a helmet.  How much truth there is to that remains to be seen...

Here's hoping, bro.  It already looks like James Vega has both a casual and combat outfit, so it's not too much of a stretch.

But wait... does this mean casual wear for Garrus?  Maybe something that doesn't look like lime green pajamas?  Huzzah!

See, what I did was play most of the game with squadmates I initially didn't like to see if my opinion of them would change.  Now I know that Thane and Liara awesomely destructive, Kaidan and Miranda are insanely useful, Jack, Zaeed, and Grunt have some of the best in-mission commentary, and Ashley is my new brosephine.  And Jacob ain't too shabby, either.  In fact, he is worthy of the Bro Squad.

Granted, a few of them look like idiots running around in tights, but I'm not going to let my preconcieved notions taint my gaming experience.  "X does not look like a professional" does not mean "X is not a professional."

See, I'm a sap for fancy-looking science-fiction gear, but I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to character analysis.  It's Ash's behavior that I'll be keeping a close eye on.  If the writers decided to tone down her somewhat abrasive attitude and make her more "feminine" because the old Ashley wasn't resonating correctly with the Average Gamer, f*ck it, I'm playing Portal.

Would it be disrespectful to smirk knowingly when she gets chemical burns in embarassing places after landing on a planet with a nasty atmosphere?

It's not eye candy, but it's...eye cookies?  Eye popcorn?  Some kind of snack food marginally healthier than candy.  I'd honestly feel a lot better about it if we haven't seen her handling an assault rifle while wearing that outfit.  Makes my Spidey Sense tingle...

Yeah, but what passed for armor in ME2 has me wanting visual proof before I get too excited.

As for Garrus...who can say?  Casual outfits on turians in general always looked wierd.  They seem born for armor.  Like krogan.

Yeah it took me forever to get the achievments in ME1 for using paricular characters for the majority of the game (still don't have the Kaidan or Wrex ones). I keep wanting to rotate them through to see what other characters could do or have to say.  I had no problem with Liara or Kaidan, cause they looked ready for a fight.

But when I see characters in ME2 dressed like they belong in a superhero cartoon, or have a superhero fetish, it takes me out of the game.  I keep going back to Garrus and Tali, not because they're part fo the "old squad" (though that's part fo it) but because they actually seem to be ready for a fight.  Sure I'll put Zaeed, Grunt, or even Kasumi in sometimes, but I can't help but enforce a "shirt and shoes" policy for my squad.  I'm sure I'm missing out on stuff, but dangit I need to take my squad seriously.  Saving the galaxy is serious work!

Preach it!

Unfortunately, though, I doubt we'll be seeing anyone speaking a whole lot of lines for a good long while.  It'll be very hard to tell what they've done to her personality right up til the end.  I'm hoping her appearance will be a good enough gauge, as we'll likely see her long before we hear her.

I'm hoping for his/hers N7 armor for my Shepard and her so we can be a true Battle Couple.  But honestly, as long as it has plating, a full helmet and is sealable against toxins, I'll be content.

Ashley was a butterface in ME1 and 2. So far she looks a lot better in ME3, so i'm totally confused with this questioning her looks in ME3. Maybe, you need to just stop staring at her so hard and looking for flaws. It's getting crazy with how everyone wants the characters to look in the next game..

You know who else went into combat in heels, with a catsuit and her hair not tied back? The Black Widow and all she does is get into fist fights with the Hulk, so I think Miranda could manage and I think Ashley could manage to not die because of hair.

When the CE re-colours first came out there was this huge thread in the general forum and the picture was brightened and other stuff happened. Bottom line Ashley's new outfit has wedge heels and garter belt connotations.

More than armour appropriate foot wear is what bugs me.

And Tigre wears a bikini and fights along side her, ITA comicbook characters wear stupid outfits.

Ashley has been Mirandaized!!! XD

I like the new look. But it won't really matter much when I play the game. I'll use all the aliens again and leave her racist ass on the Normandy. I only saved her because I heard Kaidan outranks you in ME3 and that just won't do!

I love Ash's new look. At first I wasn't sure, but now I see its not Miranda-fied at all...

Its sleek, more mature and professional to me. Ash is obviously a year or so older now and a Spectre and I think this new look is good for her

Its not stupid because its not real, they can wear anything they want, because the power of fiction protects their body, is the point. They can wear the strongest, the heaviest, the most durable armor ever, but when the fiction dictates its time for them to die, none of that will help them. The same way wearing a bikini wont hurt them, until the story says they get hurt.
