There is such a wealth of information on these threads, and while I have browsed through, I haven't encountered anything that is exactly the same as my problem.  If this is duplicated somewhere else, I apologise in advance.

The problem:  When loading a saved game in DA:O, I get the message that content is unauthorised UNLESS I'm connected to EA's servers.  From what I read on the forums, I get the idea that you shouldn't have to have the content re-authorised every time you load a save.  While this isn't a huge problem for me (I'm connected most of the time), it does get annoying when all you want to do is continue your game and the internet connection happens to be out.

Specs:
Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition
EA Digital Download
v1.04

Acer Aspire 8942G
Intel Core i7 1.6GHz
8 GB Ram
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 (4091MB)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (Service Pack 1)
(If any more info is needed, let me know, but I think this should cover everything that's remotely applicable.)

What I'd like to try:  The "Patch 1.05 PUBLIC BETA - fixes authorization issues" thread states that one of the problems it fixes is to place the CD-Key installed by the UEdition installer of the EADM into the correct folder.  I don't want to install the beta patch, since people have reported problems with it, and I have zero other problems with the game right now (since you can't roll back to 1.04).  Instead, I'd like to know where to find the folder where the CD-Key is currently (incorrectly) placed, and where the correct folder for it is (also the filename for the CD-Key?).  Perhaps this will solve my problem - and if not, at least that is one thing that is fixed.

On another note, aside from not showing the CD-Key, the Config Utility also doesn't show a version number for "Uninstall Dragon Age.exe".  I don't know if this is related.

Thanks in advance! ^_^

Okay, I've now noticed that Luke Barrett described this situation in the second post of the "ULTIMATE EDITION and DLC unauthorized" thread (I had followed all the links in the OP the first time, without reading further, it seems) and he does equate this with the misplaced CD-Key.

So, since I really don't want to install 1.05 if I don't need it, I'd really appreciate tip on where to find the CD-Key file. I should just contact support, I guess, but I have this nasty feeling they're going to want me to patch, and I don't think I need a buggy patch just to move a file between folders for me.

Thanks!

You actually have to edit the Windows registry to move the CD key. There is a standalone fix for it, but you will need to PM Luke Barrett or Raen Imrahl for it.

Ah. Okay, I'll do that, then.

Any idea if PM's here is a better way to go than contacting default support?

I'm not sure that the main EA support has the beta fix. They were asking those who needed it to PM them. As another possibility, your CD key entitles you to the EA digital download version of the game and they fixed the CD key issue with the release of their Origins download manager. Directions for obtaining the EA digital version are in the 1.05 patch thread.

Is that for those who downloaded from Steam? Or is it a different version from Ultimate Edition? Because I did download Ultimate from EA, not Steam...

Then you already have access to it. You may have downloaded and installed before they made the fix.

Oh, so you think I might also be able to fix it by re-downloading and reinstalling?

Quite possibly. It's certainly worth a try if your download speed is reasonable. The beta patch is actually not that bad. I've been running it since the private beta. The increasing load times are the only bug I've run across and they are reset by simply restarting the game (if you opt to go that way). Devs are still actively trying to track down the issues with the patch.

Hehe, the thing is - if I have one pet peeve in this world, it is long loading times. (And game restarts take time too..)

I'll see how long it takes for Luke Barrett to respond. If I get impatient, I might try the re-downloading. But since this isn't a game-breaking problem for me (in fact, I seem to have less problems than most other people) I'll probably just try the safest options first.

In case it really wasn't at the top of the list of things to remember, Raen Imrahl has stopped visiting the forums any more frequently than every two or three weeks, and only for very brief, incomplete visits (skipping PMs waiting in his inbox).

I noticed that he hadn't been replying much on the forums, but I rarely PM him, so I didn't know he wasn't replying to those. Luke practically lives on the forums, though he is generally in the DA2 ones, and he is very good about replying to PMs.

I'll see if I can find a link to it later tonight. I won't be near my actual computer for a couple of hours.

Tsk, tsk... still nothing from him. Guess the unspoken message is to uninstall the v1.05 patch.

But I'll probably just wait till they have something stable.

There are directions for manually adding the CD key to the registry here.  Obviously, you will need to get the CD key from the Steam installer.
