Hello,

The game freezes after every dialogue cutscene. I think it is due to one of my mod but I don't know which one. Anyway, I know some of you tried many mods and I'd like your input on the subject.

Here are my specs:
phenom 2 4x 3.4ghz
radeon hd 6950 2go
8go ram
300 go hd 7200 r/m

My mod folder:
advanced tactics 3.1 (up to date)
custom number of tactic slots 3.2 (set to 100)
rules fixpack 1.99beta (up to date) (I removed the auto-loot and helmet tweaks)
zdf complete v2h (up to date)
MRP v110 (up to date)
additional epilogue fix
campfire texture fix
Gorim quiet
Loghain friendly eligible
Oghren camera fix
Shaperate reward fix
unobtainable item fix

I run 1.05beta with vertical sync (triple buffering active), everything maxed except AA set to 4. Sometimes the game often takes (dragon) ages to load but I guess I can't blame the patch with so many mods. If you see any mod which could be responsible for my freezes please tell me. Thanks.

This might not be remotely applicable, but I used to have a pause/screen jitter (2 seconds?) every time an NPC started speaking a new line in the closeups/dialogue options parts.

Recently, I downloaded an update for my Radeon HD, which came with a new version of Catalyst Control Centre. While tweaking it's settings, I disabled all the "Use Application Settings" options and enabled all the "Use Custom Settings" options under Gaming > Standard 3D / Anti-Aliasing / Anisotropic Filtering, and set the last two to their highest quality. Immediately I noticed a huge improvement in the DA:O graphics, but it seem to have gotten a bit more laggy than before. When I then moved the in-game Anti-Aliasing setting down to it's minimum (since it's not being used anyway), the performance and quality were both massively better than before.

I have no idea whether what you're experiencing is in any way a graphics issue, but when you mentioned cutscenes it made me think of this. Also, my system specs are much the same as yours, and I also have a Radeon. It seems like the game likes the graphics card to take the load off it's shoulders, so perhaps this technique will help you as well.

I got the updated drivers/software from http://support.amd.c...ages/index.aspx

If these are camp dialogue scenes, the campfire texture fix may be partly responsible. I run most of the same mods (though I use the advanced quickbar mod by the same person who does advanced tactics. It seems to work a bit better). I often get a slight pause at the end of dialogue. Reducing graphics settings slightly does help some. It may also be a function of the beta patch. I have noticed that the post dialogue pauses are longer with it. (and yes, they are still trying to fix it)

The freeze also occurs out of the camp. The game also freezes when the merchant screen pops up. I'll try to change some settings and come back here if it changes anything.

I would try uninstalling all mods and see if the issue continues. If not, re-install one at a time to see which one is causing the issue.

It looks like I fixed the freezing issue thanks to Elynduil. I disabled AA ingame and forced it through catalyst control center (11.8b). The freezes are gone now. I only experience slowdowns when I spend a lot of time in the tactics screen but this must be due to the 100 slots and advanced tactics mods I installed.

Without the game's built-in AA, loading times decreased dramatically Before, I always had to wait between 45 and 50 seconds just to enter a house or to leave it. Now it takes 2 to 5 seconds.

From time to time I also experience unusually long loading times (around 3 minutes) when I reload a game. Is it a feature of the 1.05beta patch or was it already there in 1.04?

That is probably a function of the 1.04 patch that was made worse by the 1.05 patch. They are still trying to track it down. Glad you got it sorted out!

Glad to hear my poking around helped someone else too. ^_^

Well, the problem is that forcing AA through catalyst doesn't work ingame. So I'm stuck playing without AA.

The source of the issue might not be the AA after all. It is probable that my disabling it simply slowed the speed at which the leak becomes noticeable. There might be a problem in how the engine renders graphics.

The problem might also come from my ati. My drivers are up to date but the 69xx series is such a pile of crap. Half my games are messed up since I bought it.

I remember the game was really stable at release. I can't believe how messy it has become. Besides, all of these issues are partly due to these DLC. These are just a bunch of cheat codes. I bought them for the sake of completeness but they all have tier 8 items accessible right from level 5. I still love the story but I don't see the point of looting anymore. When I look back at the fun I had through my first playthrough and the spoiled and bugged game I'm playing to today, I'm a bit at a loss. A game is supposed to improve with time. I hope killing their baby was worth it.

Great. This time I put AA to x8 ingame and no freeze so far. There might be a problem with AA x4. If you experience this issue at x4, try x8.

It's the beta patch. I never had dialogue/merchant delays until installing it, but so far it clears up if I restart the game.
