So I've completely downloaded Mass Effect 1, and it's stuck on installing, not that i told it to do that... if this keeps up my computers gonna burn, it's been nearly 12 hours since i turned the computer on and i don't like more than an 8 hour run.

So, any advice would be great, in a timely fashion of course. I'm specifically making a long shot for advice today. So here goes.

and I'm worried that if I break this "installing" process that Origin is engaged in, it will enTIREly refuse to install.

You would be better off directing these questions towards EA support. These forums are user to user support, and as far as I am aware, none of the regular user techies use the Origins service, hence why you havent recieved a response.

Get onto their support page, and use the live chat feature, its not as painful as ringing the tech line.

Ok, will do.

but this site doesn't give me much hope:
http://www.customers...Electronic Arts

apparently, they are disappointing in their customer service.

Cancelling out of the install will not break it in the future. I've done it several times. You can set Origins to save the installers so you won't need to re-download them (under settings- click on the little gear thing next to your login on the top right of the Origins window)

EA support is...widely variable. Some of them couldn't give you a correct or useful answer if their very lives depended on it and others are very helpful.

Image IPB Ashley: Hi, my name is Ashley. How may I help you?
Image IPB 2375066433:
Hi Ashley, I'm having trouble with Origin. It has fully downloaded a
game and says it's installing it, but it's been doing that for over 12
hours now, no change and i don't know what to do.
Image IPB Ashley: Please cancel the install
Image IPB 2375066433: How do i do that without causing an error?
Image IPB 2375066433: I just don't want to later be unable to install my game
Image IPB Ashley: If its not installed in 24 hours, it means there is already some problem.
Image IPB 2375066433: Oh no, do you have any idea what that could mean? Will i have to redownload it?
Image IPB Communication with the RightNow Chat service has been lost.  Please wait while attempts are made to restore the connection.
Image IPB Disconnection in 240 seconds.
Image IPB Connection resumed.
Image IPB Ashley: Most probably, a redownload may not be required as it has already been downloaded.
Image IPB 2375066433: So it's just a matter of trying again?
Image IPB Ashley: Please send me the dxdiag file of your pc and the name of the game.
Image IPB 2375066433:
The name of the game is Mass Effect and i don't know where to find the
dxdiag file... but i'll try searching and see if my computer knows
Image IPB Ashley: Go
to start and then go to run or start search, tyoe dxdiag and press
enter. After that a new window will open up. Click on a tab called save
all information and send the resulting file to me
Image IPB File attachment upload has started.
Image IPB The file DxDiag.txt (25.16KB) was received.
Image IPB Ashley: IYour system is well equipped to install and play the game.
Image IPB Ashley: Just try cancelling and reinstalling the game
Image IPB 2375066433: okay... thankyou for your help! i didn't know *what* to do..
Image IPB 2375066433: aaand it's won't let me exit or logout from Origin.
Image IPB 2375066433: should i just make it close in task manager? or is that too rough..
Image IPB Communication with the RightNow Chat service has been lost.  Please wait while attempts are made to restore the connection.

Image IPB 2375066433: did i mention, i don't remember ever actually pressing install.
Image IPB Ashley: Don't you have an option to press install?
Image IPB 2375066433:
Oh i do, but it was already installing when i came back to it after it
had finished downloading. I remember i set to download and that was in
the morning, then i came back in the afternoon and checked on it, and it
was installing. has been ever since.
Image IPB 2375066433: There's no cancel button...
Image IPB Ashley: In that case end task theprocess.
Image IPB 2375066433: ok. doing it now..
Image IPB 2375066433: it's done, should i reopen Origin now?
Image IPB Ashley: Yes
Image IPB 2375066433: yay! ready to install! -.- what, a, relief. After (24?) hours of concern.
Image IPB 2375066433:
Thankyou! Well, I'm glad THAT's over, now i can give my computer a
rest. I *hope* i haven't burnt anything in my computer... i guess this
is bye?
Image IPB Ashley: Is it installing fine now?
Image IPB Ashley: Has it gone further than the last time?
Image IPB 2375066433: oh i'm going to give my computer a rest before i install. I've pushed it pretty hard being on non-stop since yesterday.
Image IPB 2375066433: in total i'd say my computers been on for ... 30 hours?
Image IPB Ashley: is it a desktop?
Image IPB Ashley: If it is then, it can be on for months and not have any issues.
Image IPB Ashley: For laptops it is much different.
Image IPB 2375066433: a desktop? it's not a laptop if that's what you mean. oh... i didn't know that. ok, i might as well try now then.
Image IPB 2375066433:
ok.. i don't know if this is normal, but i clicked the "ready to
install" button, origin came up with a message telling me i can't run
two downloads at once and all that, and a split second after that
message windows pops up with a confirmation box asking if origin has
permission etc etc, -- and as i type it has just said ready to play. ok
that was weird. I'll just double check that everythings where it's meant
to be.
Image IPB Ashley: Ok
Image IPB 2375066433:
so i found it under C: in Origin Games... i'm assuming adding Pinnacle
Station and the 1.02 patch is it just as simple? then i login
(apparently) and register the components to get a unique key ... is this
accurate?
Image IPB 2375066433: oh! then there' sbring down the sky.
Image IPB Ashley: DId you buy pinncale station from origin?
Image IPB 2375066433: yep, that's downloaded fully already. no problems (thankfully)
Image IPB Ashley: For bring down the sky, you can use  the link to download the game from -

Image IPB http://files.bioware...t_BDtS_ES_a.exe

Code - - removed -
Image IPB 2375066433: ty!
Image IPB 2375066433: so i think thats it?
Image IPB Ashley: Yes
Image IPB 2375066433: ok, thankyou very much, you've been more than generous.

phewf!! It all worked out :bandit:hopefully...
