So I'm on my third playthrough, playing as a Vanguard. I got into this stint of not using Charge or my Shotgun, or using them as little as possible. I'm relying on Reave and my squads powers to take stuff down, and it's working amazingly well. Is this pretty much how an Adept plays? Cause I tried to make one back when I first started playing, and couldn't get over how weak it was with it's piddly little pistol, so gave up on it.

If you are going to play a vanguard, then study the guides posted in the sticky.  You are missing the whole point of a vanguard if you don't charge or use the shotgun.  One of the guides ( SabreSandiego ) suggests reave as a bonus power for vanguard, and he has a lot of vids posted, but he charges almost all the time.

What you seem to be asking is, does the adept rely on a combination of things to dominate the battlefield? The answer is yes, adepts are not about using a single skill/ weapon to meet any condition, but instead mix and match to get the desired results. Any single power of an adept will likely be weaker than say a soldier's ARush attack but the combinations with an adept will be as strong or stronger depending on the situation. Adepts are all about combined force.

Agreed. Using a Vanguard and not using the Signature power that makes the class unique is totally wrong and how you shouldn't be playing the game.
If your not charging I suggest using an Adept, it's better as you can use it's signature power and go from there.

Lol, it was only one section where I didn't find myself using Charge. Trust me, I've read up on how to play it, and am playing it as such. I guess I should've clarified. Everything I've read says Vanguard and Adept are the hardest to learn to play, and I was simply asking if that's how an Adept plays, not so much with your weapon, but making full use of both your powers and squad powers to get stuff done.

Oh yeah pretty much.
The most common thing on an Adept is Stripping defenses with pwoer/weapons, Pull and Warm for a pretty warp explosion, rinse and repeat.
I still need ot do an Adept Renegade playthrough so I'm not the best one to comment, but I have delved into it XD

Sorry bout that, some folks have actually suggested not using charge for vanguard ( others not using AR on a soldier ) and I picked up on that.

My first insanity playthrough was with adept and you really need to coordinate attacks with your teammates, and take the right ones on each mission.  Its a lot different than soldier where you can take almost anyone with you.

true that. Last night on the IFF ( adept) i took samara and mordin . The combo was fantastic, best so far .
Once you get comfy as an adept, it's amazingly powerful because of the traps you set.
except with varrens. little bastards run right past them .In ME3 i want pyjacks as bonus power !
