For me it has to be either walking unprepared into the Gaxkang the Unbound fight the first time I played DA:O or the one vs one duel with the Arishok as a rogue in DA2.

I never found any of the High Dragon fights that challenging in either game but I am interested in other people's hardest battles.

 -SPOILER-
Also, not sure if it counts as a boss battle but fighting Kolgrim in the caverns for the Urn of Andraste quest was damn hard.

For me, the hardest battles were going to fight Flemeth in Origins, and I was completely unprepared to fight a High Dragon. I thought it would be a powerful mage flinging spells left and right.

The other battle would have been charging Cauthrien when she is arresting me after 'saving' Anora. I know it's near impossible to win that battle but that's what made it tough. ^_^

none.

Well, Corypheus if you don't know what to do, but he's actually easy once you do. Still, his diverse range of attacks shows Bioware wants to improve the boss fights.

I didn't think of Cauthrien as I always saw her fight as more of a scripted encounter that you had to lose for the story to progress even though I knew it was possible to win.

For some reason Caladrius always gives me trouble. But then again all enemy spell casters are a headache for me.

The Harvester in Golems of Amgarrak. (though I've never beaten Xebenbeck without cheesing it i.e. running away, so perhaps she takes the cake if we disallow such tactics)

None were VERY hard, most can be overcomed by very high defense score but the hardest is for me golems of amgarrak and night lies (nightmare).

Lol, running away is always a valid option, especially if you are squishy Posted Image

Definitely the Harvester in GoA. Getting the Grim Reaper ach. was aggravating as hell.

Surrender was a funny option, though. However, I agree. I do like fights like these more than the artificial ones in which the fight is a puzzle. They could be fun, but often BW has decided to make the bosses in those puzzles invulnerable for parts of the fight - like the High Dragon fights in DA2 and the final boss in Legacy. These are doable, but feel like grinding to me.

Cauthrien. I'm not ashamed to say I used to surrender to avoid it...I mean, for story reasons, yeah, story reasons ;-)

I had always some problems with the Broodmother - and she is so ugly :(
But the hardest one is the Harvester.

Suprised no one said Malvernis. Maybe he wasn't as hard as I thought...

Equally surprised anyone mentioned bosses from DAO, that game was way too easy in my opinion. (I had to solo it to pick up any real challenge, that or make no potions/mages runs)

Malvernis. By far... Maybe I don't know something, but he was brutal on me.

I found Malvernis comparatively easy - maybe its just that using scythe+whirlwind on a 2h warrior lets you get rid of the archers easily, which is what most people seem to struggle with.

The Harvester in GoA on Hard/Nightmare is a ****, and Ser Cauthrien is hard unless you already know whats coming and so stock up on decent health poultices. Nothing in DA:2 is particularly challenging, and the Orsino-Harvester is a joke in comparison with the Amgarrak counterpart. Having a mage with cold-blooded makes the Xebenkeck fight do-able without cheese.

Haven't got GoA, but the hardest I've faced was probably Flemeth - the first time I kinda waltzed in there not really thinking about how powerful the old hag could be - and the Arishok in DA2.

But the Broodmother, whilst not the most differcult one to kill in the series, is possibly the most disturbing boss fight I've ever had......

Yep.
Reminds me that I need to try that on Hard again. First time I came very unprepared. Wrong class, Wrong Spec, No means to respec my companions... it was bad. Couldnt get very far into the crawler phase before being overwhelmed with adds.

Wait when do you fight Malvernis? I played Legacy and I have no recollection of fighting him.

Xebenkeck on Normal died before I really even noticed it was there. I usually do the same thing every single time: hit the boss rank with ice blast, drop that force mage slow spell on them, drop a firestorm on them, and then just shoot with spells as they come out of cooldown. I don't even pay attention to the companions much.

It usually works, except every caster in DA2 can usually one-shot you if they resist the freeze and don't get stun-locked or if you miss a chance to interrupt them at a critical moment. I don't think I was having fun with any of these.

Playing no-injury no-potion, I think Branka is still one of the toughest with a "story" party (Shale and Oghren, and Leliana for traps/locks). Somehow I (eventually, after much frustration) did it with both the friendly golems still alive, but it was pure luck, not skill or strategy.

The Legacy bosses were also really annoying to do with no injuries and no potions, especially when you have to go through a conversation each time you have to reload.

It's the secret boss fight.

I beat Cauthrien with Wynne, do as much damage with everyone else as quickly as I can, When they go down to a barrage of arrows, just run away with Wynne and lure Cauthrien into a one on one, or if she is with like two guards or something. Make liberal use of Walking Bomb and keep running in circles lol.

Well the enemy I struggled with when running into them the first time, was Flemeth. I didn't have my party setup for a High Dragon, that's the only one I struggled against on my first go. Funny thing is the easiest boss in the series is the Archdemon and I didn't even know you could use the ballista until my second playthrough.

Fighting Cauthrien as a squishy mage was difficult (to the point of wanting to surrender) but as a rogue ranger who can summon animals it was much easier, my party fell back to a safe spot then I just kept sending my summonables after her little army till they were manageable
