Dragon Age is failing to install either from DVD or from download via EADM.

Running autorun.exe gives:

"Error: switch from current encoding to specified encoding not supported. Line 1, Column 40 inter XML settings"
On clicking 'OK' a blank box with large Red 'X' appears, then nothing...

Running setup.exe gives:

"Welcome to the Dragon Age Installer" >Next
"End User License Agreement" >I Agree
"Select Install Type" >standard/custom
either one then gives:
"Dragon Age: Origins Installer has stopped working" >Close

I have sent an email to EA official support but not heard anything back even after three days. I have searched all available forums and websites and tried every suggestion I have found, but nothing has made any difference.

At the very least can someone from EA or Bioware confirm that this is a recognised problem and say if here isn't any solution yet (and if one is being worked on) so that I can stop wasting my time searching for a solution if none actually exists.

Thank you in advance.

As I mentioned, I'm also having this issue. I have 32bit Vista. A response of some kind would be nice as I've never had any installkation problems with this computer before.

I have the exact same issue, except i am using XP. So it's not a Vista problem. Quite frankly, im pissed, i payed 60 dollars for this, and EA won't even acknowledge my issue.

I had the same error but managed to install and run the game by creating and logging to another user account on my PC. Not 100% sure it will work with others but I'd say it's worth trying. I'm gonna try to locate the exact cause of the problem next weekend.

Belive it or not, but the following really worked for me!

I have DA:O installed via Steam, same error as mentioned above... checked file, reloaded files via Steam, nothing helped...
But:
In the application folder I ran the "DAOriginsLauncher.exe": Same error
I ran the EXE as Administrator: Launcher opend, Click on "Start": Same error
I shut down Steam, ran the EXE as Administrator: Launcher opend, Click on "Start", Steam started, the Game started

Seriously, I have no idea why it worked, but I don't wan't to close DA:O.... to scared about encountering the same problem again next time.......
