I wonder if it was Corphyeus whom is corrupting the Lyrium of the Free Marches? Or maybe it was a way to keep the Dwarves at bay for the Tevinter Magisters as they knew they'd be weakened as they sacced so many slaves for the blood, and would be in the Golden City/Fade for so long leaving them vulnerable in that period of time.

Does the prophecy exist for those who didn't do the Dark Ritual? I've only ever heard it for the Dark Ritual playthroughs, leading me to believe it's the God Child.

One interesting bit about Sandal's prophecy, be it a joke or not, is that it seems to contradict or be distinct from one of the prophecies of Eleni Zinovia:

I can never pay attention to what she says. The way she stresses the 'o' in "Zinovia" in the mage origin story makes me want to punch her in the face. It's all I can hear when she's talking.

"The prison is breached. I see the encroaching darkness. The... the shadow will consume all..."

See, that sounds normal, even typical for some of the stuff in the games.

If Sandal is indeed original, David (or whoever) really went out of their way to make it sound awkward (that is so not a first-draft line).

I never do the DR and I've never heard the prophesy from Sandal.  I've stood there clicking on him until the mere sound of his voice is enough make me want to stab him.  And no prophesy.

It is random though - I might fake up a save with the DR and see if I get it.  Not that that's definitive - a word from our sponsors would clear it up.

I suspect that most of what Sandal says is just a bit of a tease and at least one quote is definitely from Cold Comfort Farm "There's something nasty in the woodshed."  So depending on how extensive your reading, film watching portfolio is, you can probably pick out where his quotes come from.  That prophesy definitely has a familar ring to it that I can't quite place.  Then again, it could reference something in game as well - you know how easy it is to make prophesy fit your world view - look at the Chantry.

But what if there *was* something nasty in the woodshed? Kirkwall is on a veritable hellmouth - any manner of vile critter could have been clinging to the kindling. :)

Oh... That is interesting and relevant too. Sadly I don't have an none Dark Ritual warded to test it, and it is rare to get in the first place.

I always do the DR, and I've only heard it once out of close to 10 times I've reached Act 3. And I'll sit there and click on him until fiance threatens to unplug the computer. I wonder if the frequency was altered in one of the patches...

Of course, it could be that Sandal simply inhales too much lyrium while he's crafting runes...

Personally I think Sandal didn't come up with the prophesy so much as he's simply repeating what he has heard. Earlier in the game he mentions a scary old lady who comes to visit him. It is very possible that this is Flemeth. I couldn't say for sure why she would visit Sandal, but I could definitely see her saying the exact words from the prophesy.

If you read on dwarven history, they were once capable of using magic. What it could mean is that the dwarves will one day return to how they once were. By the shadows parting, I am thinking possibly that there will be a large opening on the ground, making way for the skies to open up over Orzamar.

A viable possibility, but why would Flemeth be whispering sweet prophetic nothings into his ear at night? What purpose would it serve for him to know what may be imminent? Unless of course, she is trying to awaken something within him...hmmm.

I tend to think that if the scary old lady is Flemeth, she is making bedside visits to keep an eye on him and ensure his safety for some reason - maybe to keep him alive and well for the very event covered in the prophecy.
