“We’ve really struck a great balance. Obviously, if
you’ve played the game before you’ll see things that apply to you… And
even if you’ve played the games multiple times before – Mass Effect
came out almost eight years ago – you’re not going to remember all the
details from when you played that game, right? Even I can’t recall
everything that happened to me when that came out in 2007. It’s human
nature. We’re not Rain Man…I think this is definitely the best chance we have in the series to
really break out and go truly blockbuster. It really is a natural entry
point for people: giant alien race launches all-out war, you have to
rally the forces of the universe to counter and see if you can take them
down. That’s pretty clear. You don’t need to be like: ‘Well, what
about when I had this love affair?’ It’s like, who cares? It’s all out
war! New people will get it, but existing fans will see the stakes being
raised. It will still have levels of nuance – I don’t want to spoil
anything – but you’re definitely going to be seeing things that you’ll
be like: ‘Oh, I remember that!’ - BioWare Marketing Head David Silverman

Does this mean our decisions made in Mass Effect 1 and 2 won't have major consequences like promised? If that is true I will be so disappointed with Mass Effect 3! Who cares about balance anyways? It ruins the game for hardcore fans!

You'll get some very exciting email in ME3. They've added the ability for NPCs to include attachments!

who the hell.......

Wait.....david silverman again

will someone fire his ***??

of course I remember pretty much everything that happened in ME1 for god's sake, maybe the people who played it only once won't (and even they may have re played ME1 in preparation to ME2 and remember more now). Maybe HE does not because he is obviously marketer who has littlle interest in the product he is trying to sell (HEY....press a button, something awesome will happen!)

Hopefully Casey Hudson won't let this happen! Maybe he'll keep the game the way it should be and smack some sense into Silverman

You're missing the big picture here! we'll get to stumble on everyone we've ever met on a single location as a reward for playig the previous game!

At this point I just tally any thing Silverman says as 'marketing bravado' intended to get new comers excited about the game, I'd be alarmed if it was Casey saying this however. They better not cater to the new comers too much.

anything that guy says is to appeal to stupid people. he's like their stupid people translator.

"hey silverman, how can we convey to new players how important everything is? all the drama and emotion of the games that came before it? the conclusion of all your choices in two full games?"

"uh, well ill tell them aliens! war! spaceships! explosions! awesome button!!!!!!"

At first I thought there was somebody named Blance working at Bioware. =]

And I had thought that we will be able to have some dialogue options similar to the Udina/Anderson choice for ME3.

What? No, even when ME3 comes out it would have only been 4 and 1/2. Also, this worries me. If this turns out to be what we suspect, Bioware has officially given up on the deep story paths.

Pretty much this, but I do have to give him kudos for actually getting BW to admit femShep exists.

I'm starting to really dislike Mr. Silverman. Is it really that hard to make market this game without making the old Bioware fans sound like some doddering thing of the past?

But yeah, he's the marketing arm of Bioware so I'm not too worried. If CASEY HUDSON was talking like this guy, I would be finished with Mass Effect.

Maybe it is meant as as balance:

David Silverman - Appeal to mainstream audiences

Casey Hudson - Appeal to hardcore fans

Tip? Casey Hudson better talk more and give us older fans some reassurance of ME3's direction as an action ROLE-PLAYING game.

*sigh newcomers have to be thinking this guy is stupid at this point.

Some of us weren't playing Mass Effect since it first came out (played my first time around this time last year) I sure as hell remember what I did and it doesn't take rain man to remember that I saved the Rachni Queen *rolls eyes*

just gets a tad excitable and he speaks before he thinks about if he should speak sometimes, he does his job well, people who don't care for marketing will scour the videos and screenshots for the flickers of the game in the background. People who don't care about the game are looking for someone to scream "Boobies! EXPLOSIONS! Kill stuff!". I wouldn't worry. He's there to get a different crowd paying attention.

Its working.

Just love stories like this AFTER I've preordered ME3CE.If the New people really want to know what is going on in 3 they can get 1&2.

I've given up on ME3 being a role-playing game, even Casey recites Silverman's words as of recent.

I feel the same way. You don't see GoW doing a recap for they're sequels but ME does it, probably just to annoy us.

I just love how he (silverman)thinks the last game in the series is the "natural entry point"for players. So I guess me buying the first two games was a mistake?

I used to not get annoyed with/worried by the whole "ME3 is a great place for fans new and old" bullsh*t because it makes sense to say it from a marketing standpoint. but now ME3 seems all about attracting new fans and saying screw the longtime-players and their decisions

If BioWare cops out on ME3 as far as our decisions are concerned, I'm done with them as a company. Call me what you want. I have no plans on cancelling anything and will be reserving final judgement for when the credits roll in 3.

Just words to make people new to series/casual gamers feel like they're not getting half of a game by not playing the first two titles.
You have to understand that most of us here are hardcore fans, hardcore enough to make posts in a forum dedicated to the third game. Silverman is trying to appeal to people not 100% familiar with Mass Effect (like we are).
