This... this is a joke right?

2007 was not eight years ago, btw.

That was exactly my first thought!

Besides, I plan to replay ME1 and ME2 (and reread the books as well) just before ME3 comes out. I stopped playing the ME games in March just for that reason and I didn't make my final character yet, just for that reason.

But it's Mr. Silverman again so ... "sticks fingers in ears" lalalalalalala! ;)

The "crowned jewel", the very thing the Mass Effect series prides itself on the player making choices that hold weight in the universe. I think that this quote really meant:

"Mass Effect is a great series, but your not going to remember all the choices you made. I think having new elements in the game that allow new players to enter into the world with out having a 200 page prologue they have to read is a goal that the Mass Effect desgin team is working on. We are forming an experience that rewards our loyal fans who played ME1, ME2, and ME3 while still making the final installment of our franchise accessible to new comers."

Figure, this just means that the interactive comic is going to do a round up on ME1 and ME2 if you didn't have an import.

Nothing too in-depth.  Figure 6 crucial decisions from ME1 and a few from ME2.

Exactly! They'll kill all the other small choices from ME2 just like they did with ME1!

Actually, I thought they did their best to adress small ME1 choices in ME2. You see quite a lot of them (Fist, Helena Blake, Giana Parasini, Nassana Dantius). Granted most of them only get small nods, some lines from an NPC or a news report on the citadel but hey, I thought it was well done. 1) you wouldn't expect these small choices to have galaxy wide repercussions and 2) the galaxy is huge, I thought meeting so many old faces in ME2 was already pushing it.
Frankly, I'd rather have focus on a few choices (the obvious bog ones + some character things + LIs) and flash these out in real detail and with effort. At least that is what I'd prefer.

This Silverman must be a troll. I assume he is paid by BW to spread misinformation. And seriously, is he from the future or something?Almost 8 years?

I've been using the summer to replay the games and set up my playthroughs for ME3. I figure all the big decisions will have an impact, but some of the smaller ones might get swept under the rug. I would like to see some of the smaller decisions reflected in the game, similar to what they did in ME2. I don't expect that to happen, but I have hope.

Silverman is outta touch, outta mind.

1. All Mass Effect fans have horrible memory, apparently.
2. Awesome buttons.
3. Mass Effect came out 8 years ago. Before the platform it was designed for was even released. REALLY, DAVID?

I'm starting to really dislike Mr. Silverman. Is it really that hard to make market this game without making the old Bioware fans sound like some doddering thing of the past?

But yeah, he's the marketing arm of Bioware so I'm not too worried. If CASEY HUDSON was talking like this guy, I would be finished with Mass Effect.

Maybe it is meant as as balance:

David Silverman - Appeal to mainstream audiences

Casey Hudson - Appeal to hardcore fans

Tip? Casey Hudson better talk more and give us older fans some reassurance of ME3's direction as an action ROLE-PLAYING game.

I just hope our faith in Casey pays off.

Just words to make people new to series/casual gamers feel like they're not getting half of a game by not playing the first two titles.

You have to understand that most of us here are hardcore fans, hardcore enough to make posts in a forum dedicated to the third game. Silverman is trying to appeal to people not 100% familiar with Mass Effect (like we are).

and that's the path to water down a franchise. If you are telling me that a game serie you marketed to me in 2007 for being based on decision and repercussions, deep character involvement and emotional investment has now gone to "yeah screw the fist two installments this (ME3) is the best place to start" you are either

A: bull****ing people because it is not true thus thinking your target audience is dumb

or

B: you are telling the truth and you just did a complete 180 on the serie's core

David Silverman is a douche wagon and should learn to eat tailpipe. He is probably the main reason we have so many threads here doubting the final product of ME3. He better be wrong, and he needs to STFU

I wonder what he would do if a reviewer who is also a passionate fan got an interview with him and started calling him on his BS

“We’ve really struck a great balance. Obviously, if
you’ve played the game before you’ll see things that apply to you… And
even if you’ve played the games multiple times before – Mass Effect
came out almost eight years ago – you’re not going to remember all the
details from when you played that game, right? Even I can’t recall
everything that happened to me when that came out in 2007. It’s human
nature. We’re not Rain Man…I think this is definitely the best chance we have in the series to
really break out and go truly blockbuster. It really is a natural entry
point
for people: giant alien race launches all-out war, you have to
rally the forces of the universe to counter and see if you can take them
down. That’s pretty clear. You don’t need to be like: ‘Well, what
about when I had this love affair?’ It’s like, who cares? It’s all out
war!
New people will get it, but existing fans will see the stakes being
raised. It will still have levels of nuance – I don’t want to spoil
anything – but you’re definitely going to be seeing things that you’ll
be like: ‘Oh, I remember that!’

Amount of bull**** Silverman can say is amazing, truly inspiring.
I hope EA realizes his talent and gives this guy a promotion.

I believe Silverman wants to troll the fans or something. Seriously why can't he think two times before saying something? Especially if you're in an interview were you're supposed to think carefully what you say.

Seriously I don't have anything about him, I like him (sort of) but each time he talks he creates controversy.

So now my love affairs don't matter? Great. Thanks Silverman.<_<

EDIT: Epic fail at 2007 being 8 years ago.

Of course Silverman would say that. Casey needs to pull an "Elias Kelham's lawyer" and advise him to shut the hell up.

...2011 - 2007 =/= 8 years, Silverman. -_-

It hurts so much already and we still have 6-7 months to go...

I understand that Silverman is meant to appeal to the... ahem... 'newer' gamers, but... he's beating the horse to death rather than sustaining it so to speak. That was just painful to read.

It could very well be a marketing ploy. By generating this much debate over ME3, making fans feel genuinely concerned about the final instalment of the trilogy, if the game is then any good, you just turned it into a great game despite its merits. You know, by carefully lowering fans' expectations of the game, you can turn any game from simply good to great. Just putting it out there. Having said that, I have high hopes for ME3, regardless of what Mr. Silverman said, which can actually be interpreted any number of ways, doomsday being just one variation.
