In ME1, we had a squad of six, and each one roughly fell into one of the six classes.  Ash was a soldier (combat), Kaidan was sentinel (tech/bio), Liara rolled adept (biotics), Wrex was the vanguard (bio/com), Tali was our resident engineer (tech), and Garrus was the infiltrator (tech/com).

In ME2, we had a total of twelve squadmates, and were forced to pick up six of them: Miranda (sentinel), Jacob (vanguard), Jack (adept), Grunt (soldier, although he could be kept in the tank), Garrus again (infiltrator), and Mordin (engineer).

This, I believe, is done to ensure gameplay balance no matter what class the player chooses, a necessary move in party-based gaming.  So, naturally, it is safe to assume the ME3 squad will be at least six members strong, again with one of each class.

We already have our soldier (James Vega) and our adept (Liara), plus Kaidan, Ashley, Garrus, and Tali (if they're alive).  There will probably be new sentinels, engineers, and infiltrators to cover for Kaidan, Garrus, and Tali if the player managed to off them in a previous installment (my hunch is that the rumored prothean squadmate would take sentinel), but so far no "vanguard" class character has been mentioned.

So, who do you think it is?  Personally, I'm hoping for a batarian.

That is my guess. And yeah Miranda poached, Jacob's Sentinel role I assume. Probably to show off her excellence at everything she does. In Mass Effect 2 Jacob is a Vanguard, but in Galaxy he is a Sentinel.

I'm guessing they will introduce 1 more new squadmate who's a Sentinel. Depending on your choices, you might have to go without a Vanguard.

Retcon Grunt into being a Vanguard. That way we have a Krogan and a Vanguard. And if there's a second Sentinel, it should be Miranda.

Grunt is not Biotic.  Unless Okeer implanted him with the requesite eezo growths and just never put an amp socket in his head.

I know. I consider him a Vanguard though because of his playstyle.

Wiki isn't always right as it can edited by almost any source. Jack's an adept with a shotgun. If she had barrier protection she be a vanguard (at least according to the power sets of past vanguards).

His power set is not lore; that's a game play mechanic. He was a sentinel but is now a vanguard. I'd bet his ME2 vanguard power set will carry over into ME3.
