No BF3 for Steam, what does this mean for ME3?

This doesn't bode well for Mass Effect 3, but what do you guys think on this?
Could ME3 really not make an appearance on Steam?

I'm more for physical copies.

It's really a shame PC gamers have to start buying from many different sites now. It's almost ridiculous. It's probably going to get to the point where every company has their own site with exclusive games.

And it doesn't really change anything, when you think about it.

It's likely going to happen with all of EA's games going forward unless they come to their senses and realize the sales they're throwing away by not supporting steam, so hopefully the people that bought ME1 and 2 on steam can finish the trilogy on it.

It's unfortunate that EA is doing this, I really like what DICE is doing with BF3's PC version (actualyl caring about making it look and play amazing versus the usual console port) but it's going to get (steam)rolled by MW3 on the PC which will be on steam with steamworks support and plenty of advertisement.

I find it very funny that they finally have the game that may be the one to trump COD, and they are removing it from steam. They are giving MW a major advantage here!! I wonder how many gamers who were trying to decide which of the two to get wiill now get MW because its the only one on steam.

"Battlefield 3 will not be available on Steam as the service restricts our ability to directly support players," a rep said. "The service limits our ability to deliver patches and downloadable content directly to players. No other download service has adopted these practices. At EA, supporting our players is a top priority, and we are happy to partner with any download service that does not restrict our ability to connect directly with our own consumers."
I laugh at this, most notably at the bolded part (uh autopatching that can be turned on and off, plenty of other companies have steam distribute their dlc?) While Valve does want to have a cut in the dlc sales like any smart business, it seems to me EA is the only one complaining about it, but as a business move you can't fault for them wanting 100% of the dlc profits. Bad things could come of this, if other publishers start adopting this practice. Needing multiple publisher accounts would get annoying very quickly. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but I really don't see them outdoing CoD in terms of sales like they try to boast about.

So kudos EA by limiting my options you limit how much cash you make out of me. Not to mention I have already decided to get the next COD game and not Battlefield 3 since Activision are letting me buy it from my preferred place of purchase.

What does Episode 3 have to do with digital hats? Also, you are not inclined to buy the DLC, it literally has no effect. I think the weapons in TF2 are stupid as hell, but that doesn't reflect on Steam in the slightest. EA is REMOVING games from a service where people already have huge catalogues of games downloaded just to make a small amount of profit. Origin is clunky and only hosts EA games, it's completely useless. If you like Origin, why don't we just get every publisher to make their own client? That way, we can have 50 programs running on our computer just so we can access our games. AWESOME IDEA!TwistedComplex wrote...

This is retarded. I mean, I'm going to buy the hard copy of ME3, but I buy a few games through Steam. Its nice to have a central location where you can find pretty much any (newer) game, and with this Origin crap it's going to complicate that. It's EA trying to get its claws everywhere, undermining good systems in place. And Origin is just the beginning, now everyone's going to want a piece of the pie and we are going to have to have multiple accounts on multiple systems just to have access to everything.
True, but if that's the case, prices are gonna drop super quick.

I know right? How DARE EA try to compete in a free market
EA isn't like every other publisher. They are the largest publisher of entertainment in history. It's a 20 MB program. Is downloading 20MB just TOO MUCH for people to handle? If you want the game, either get off your computer chair and buy a hard copy or download Origin. AWESOME IDEA!

Of course Steam will win. Oh well no EA games for me until they come to their senses. Perhaps someday we will need a competitor, but it is not this day.

This isn't competing, it's screwing the customers over! Steam is a fair service that lets publishers sell their games for a small price. How are they any different from a physical store? Should EA just open up an Origin shop in real-life, too? I hope the IRL version won't be as clunky, slow and poorly built as the digital version is. They are probably making something like 10% more profit off of DLC while forcing users to switch between programs and separating an already well-built community. This is just going to inspire EA to bottleneck it's customers into higher prices as time progresses. No one else is doing this because they are not greedy children. I never thought in a million years that EA would stoop lower than Activision, I guess I was wrong.TwistedComplex wrote...

they'll break.
my guess? BF3 and ME3 will be on steam by their release dates. both Valve and EA want to sell it on steam. this whole thing is a bunch of stupid petty crap honestly.
