The problem appears to be that Valve won't let EA sell DLC to players in-game.

The only way I see ME3 on Steam is if Valve changes their policy (and technology) to allow it or if EA finds that they are losing too much money by excluding Steam. Personally, I think no Steam.

Hm, I'm no PC gamer, but I don't think it will be on Steam. ME3 will probably be Origin exclusive.

While BF3 isn't coming to Steam it is coming to over a hundred other digital stores. They disagree with Steam's policy (which is rumored to be a cut of DLC profits) and so I guess ME3 won't come out on Steam but will on other digital platforms.

well no, thats misinformation.

every digital store gets a cut from each sale. its kinda the whole point of the the digital store.

the issue is that steam wants to sell the DLC too, EA however wants to be the only source of the DLC, but they'll let the digital stores sell the games themselves. steam has issues with not being able to sell the games adn their DLC.
steam wants to sell both the games and the DLC, EA only wants steam to sell the games. thats the issue.

EA is on crack if they think I'll use Origins. I don't need more than one Steam-type program running on my computer, and guess what; Steam already has the slot.

Origin is trash and has nothing that Steam already has.

Origin is in "beta" and Steam has been around for years. As for the sale part, um Origin is showing off some pretty impressive bundle packages and deals that are on par with Steam.

Steam is much better though right now, I agree, but Origin isn't going to hurt the customer's wallet any more or less than Steam. If anything it will help.

Lets face it, EA won't be releasing any more games on Steam if they can help it. All of their claims about Steam being "restrictive" are just excuses so they can get a bigger piece of the pie. I can't blame them for this however, it's the nature of business.

Yet maybe Valve will try to cut a deal with EA, but I doubt it.

I realize this, I just don't understand the reason of even trying to build a service to Steam's level for some DLC profits, just seems like a waste of time to me and doesn't benefit the customers.

Origin isn't new. It was called the EA Store and the downloadable program was called EA Download Manager which also included the EA Store. They renamed it Origin but it's pretty much the same thing.

You don't need origins running on your computer to run any games. Its just a download service. If you have any DLC, you've pretty much already used it.

You don't even need to have Origin installed to run a game you purchased through the service. It can act solely as a download manager, you don't need the client running like Steam to play your Origin titles.

I don't really care if BF3 is on Steam or not, because I always get hard copies of Battlefield games.

But I REALLY hope ME3 is on Steam, because I own ME1 and ME2 on Steam, and I have OCD when it comes to owning game series through the same retailers/distributors.

Is there anything superior about buying a digital edition of a game, rather than a physical copy?

For me, its simply easier to manage my games through a downloadable library than a collection of dics. Obviously, MMV.

Interestingly, with SWTOR, those who buy a physical copy can also download from Origin so you can have both.

No big deal... I have pre-ordered a physical copy just like BF3.

And people who will not buy a game because it will not support Steam are really weird... You will buy the game anyway.

Yep. I don't have to get off my lazy butt and go to a store :D I can get it instantly

No disks to lose/break

Never lose a serial.

I love steam, but i don't see how this is hurting anyone to have to download a game from a different service.

What does Episode 3 have to do with digital hats? Also, you are not inclined to buy the DLC, it literally has no effect. I think the weapons in TF2 are stupid as hell, but that doesn't reflect on Steam in the slightest. EA is REMOVING games from a service where people already have huge catalogues of games downloaded just to make a small amount of profit. Origin is clunky and only hosts EA games, it's completely useless. If you like Origin, why don't we just get every publisher to make their own client? That way, we can have 50 programs running on our computer just so we can access our games. AWESOME IDEA!:wizard:

I know right? How DARE EA try to compete in a free market

EA isn't like every other publisher. They are the largest publisher of entertainment in history. It's a 20 MB program. Is downloading 20MB just TOO MUCH for people to handle?

This isn't competing, it's screwing the customers over! Steam is a fair service that lets publishers sell their games for a small price. How are they any different from a physical store? Should EA just open up an Origin shop in real-life, too? I hope the IRL version won't be as clunky, slow and poorly built as the digital version is. They are probably making something like 10% more profit off of DLC while forcing users to switch between programs and separating an already well-built community. This is just going to inspire EA to bottleneck it's customers into higher prices as time progresses. No one else is doing this because they are not greedy children. I never thought in a million years that EA would stoop lower than Activision, I guess I was wrong.

Nothing can stoop lower than Activision. EA is getting there but they'll have to start charging 1.5x more than everyone else on Origin.

As for ME3 if BF3 sales on Origin fail they might come to their senses and put games back on Steam

oh its still 2-3 months away before BF3 comes out. ive seen multiple news statements from EA, they KEEP talking about steam.

they'll break.

my guess? BF3 and ME3 will be on steam by their release dates. both Valve and EA want to sell it on steam. this whole thing is a bunch of stupid petty crap honestly.

NO. you don't get it, do you? this time, it's very different. EA makes tons of money even though they decide not to sell their bluckbuster at steam. they really expect Origin seriously. by the way, Steam makes tons of money as well. it doens't matter whether Steam won't sell BF3, ME 3 or not. only customers get suffered. with basic knowledge, you can't compare with EA. it's the biggest gaming maker in the world. they don't actually care about steam seriously. remember this. EA sells not only PC games but also tons of console games as well. in terms of profit, steam is just small portion of what EA makes.

Maybe it's because I don't play many games on the computer, but why does it matter whether Mass Effect 3 is on Steam or the Origin store. In the end you get the same game. Isn't it a bit like deciding whether you want to get a game from Target or Walmart (or any other store)?

Or is this just people trying to 'stand up to the man' because they don't like EA?

They're alike I agree, but they're not "pretty much the same thing". I would say it is more comparable to battle.net.

Hey guys,

Newsflash: You don't have to use Origin. You can either buy it from the retail stores or download them from the OTHER downloading centers like Direct2Drive etc

While I am incredibly supportive of Steam and buy damn near exclusively from them, if ME3 isn't available, I'll go retail. I will not, however, purchase from Origins. While I readily admit I could be wrong, it seems EA just renamed their old system instead of developing a new one. The EADM was pretty much the worst digital download service I've ever used and I'm in no hurry to use it again.

Steam is my preference, though, so I hope these two can learn to share before ME3 comes out.

Direct2Drive now makes you download and install a program just like Origin. I assume people know they can buy it from a retail store, this is more about the digital options presented or lack thereof.

As for Origin; It downloads just as fast as Steam and doesn't need to be running AT ALL to play your games. I had to active "Dragon Age 2" once and voila I never had to have it running again. It has comparable deals, but lacks any social atmosphere and only sells EA exclusive items. I would say customer support is a push, I've personally had better luck with EA than Steam.

I've been using Steam for years, I got like 50 games in my library, but Origin isn't that bad of an alternative. I would suggest it to people who play primarily EA titles and don't care for social aspects Steam offers.

not only that, but they bought out, and canabilized a developer studio simply for the name origin.

God... I am a Console gamer so I don't really care all that much, but what difference does it really make to you guys? As long as there won't be some dick move by EA like the Ubisoft online only nonesense then I really don't see the difference between playing ME3 on steam and playing ME3 on origin.
