Do these same people not have mailboxes?

As I explained above, many people do not like waiting 3-5 days for their game, especially when they are hardcore fans. Nevermind the ludicrous shipping prices outside of the US.

The Escapist : News : EA Confirms No Battlefield 3 on Steam

This doesn't bode well for Mass Effect 3, but what do you guys think on this?

Could ME3 really not make an appearance on Steam?

I'd be fine with that.

I'm not keen on being forced to go online to play games I've paid full price for, so it'd be nice not to have Steam be a compulsory component like some of the other games I've bought in hard copy.

Other people like to buy games through Steam, so it'd suck for them if they couldn't get it that way.

Per a Kotaku article I read, EA has come out and said anyone who has bought games will not be canceled after the TWO YEARS of inactivity period. They have this clause in there so they can delete accounts that are not in use at all or were frauulenty created. TBH I haven't read the entire Steam ToS either, but I'm sure there are clauses that would infuriate people just as much. I'm not really an EA fanboy, so don't think I'm defending EA. But, lets be honest, when it comes to digitally downloaded video games on services like Steam or Origin... they aren't purchases... they are leases. If Steam all of a sudden went dark... they don't HAVE to release the games you bought via their service. That IS in the ToS, btw. Same with Origin... so... this kind of thing isn't totally new. But... isn't the conversation getting off the point of what the original question is?

No BF3 for Steam, what does that mean for ME3?

And no, legal action can't be brought against EA because by signing their ToS you agree that if you let your acount get inactive you risk losing your acount. Again, they said they wouldn't do it to valid paying customers... but again, you run that risk.

I wish EA would of just kept with Steam instead of making their own service to compete. Although I did purchase Bad Company 2 on Origin, I would of preferred to keep steam as my only digital content service, having multiple accounts becomes a pain.

No doub ME3 is going the same path

Why? BF3 is a multiplayer game. BFBC2 requires online activation via EA login everytime you open it(basically Origin account) regardless of how you use it.

Mass Effect 3 at the worst probalby require Origin for one time activation, one time DLC confirmation, and patching, and two of those three are completly optional features that you can opt out of. I still doubt they do anyting other than "log in with EA account" for Mass Effect.

It doesn't affect me since I don't play on PC.

But I don't think moving ME3 away from steam is a smart move. Just my opinion.

Eh EA is really shooting themselves in the foot by not making their games available on Steam.

Not that BF3 has had any hope of outselling MW3, but now it's just a done deal and the discrepancy will be that much worse. There's just no way. This will be bad for ME3 as well. It probably won't decrease sales by a significant amount, but they certainly aren't going to be gaining as much as they would with Steam. EA will just have to learn this the hard way, just wish they weren't doing this with two of my favorite game series.

It's a bit of a shame that EA has to resort to this kind of tomfoolery to get people to actually use their service, instead of competing through innovation and good product/s. I don't buy the excuse, in Dragon age they had links that put your right to Bioware's store's portal...

To stay on topic and prevent the thread from getting booWoo'd....

It is pretty darn likely EA will either totally shut Steam out, or stick to the more passive aggressive stance they have been taking and allow the game to be released on steam-then pull it after the first DLC is released. That is what it means for ME3.

On the + side, (ignoring the MP argument for the moment)- we can....erm....Mod the game so we don't have to run Origin all the time, or otherwise authenticate if we want to play in a hotel room or something. Yeah yeah, we are just paying for the privilege of 'borrowing" your code and game, and that might violate the 'borrowing' terms. But unless your going to allow me to 'borrow' a wireless nic card with service.....

Woah, almost on a rant-I'll stop here.

Back on topic-The question should also be asked, what the hell is going to happen to the Bioware store and your points? You really think they can justify to the bean counters letting that service stick around for much longer?

I won't buy it if it's not on Steam. And I'm REALLY looking forward to both Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect 3. But EA can suck a big one if they don't put them on Steam. All my games/friends/comments/wishlist/stats and everything I can think of are on Steam.

I really really hope EA will put both on Steam, or I will be pretty pissed off.

I have Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, both on Steam, and was totally expecting to buy ME3 on Steam when it came out too.

EA has a bit of a... "reputation" still lingering from the time when it was viewed that their interference had killed or ruined a number of highly anticipated games, and some people are never going to get past that to try Origin out.

The fact that a lot of players have the rest of the trilogy on one platform or another that may no longer be supported (Steam, pure retail) means that they will be less likely to purchase as the sense of continuity is broken. Not to any great extent but enough that they may downgrade "Of course I'll get it" to "Maybe I'll get it anyway", and a maybe to a definitely not.

Of course, however, it is one of the most highly anticipated games... well, ever... and as such EA's decision will probably up Origin subscriptions. But that doesn't mean people will like it. They are walking a fine line between pushing their new games hub and making people feel like they have to jump through hoops.

What a joke.

As much as joke as the games you buy that require Steam, or Windows Live, or an UbiSoft server checker, etc etc.

I don't buy games that require any of those things - I didn't even make an exception for Civ 5 (which requires Steam), in spite of having bought, played, and loved Civ 1-4.  I sincerely hope that the physical copy of Mass Effect 3 does not require Origin.

Agreed.

I can't stand any of them. They're all the same clunky, bloatware to me. No matter how much they try to dress it up.

Its bad enough there is a log on in the game already, having a log on OUT of the game as well is just dumb.

I always buy big, new, highly anticipated games on physical disk and reserve digital distribution for titles that are either a few years old or on sale.
Not really worried about anything not being available on Steam.

He wasn't trolling, they have talked abotu ME3 having some sort of multiplayer option. Possibly side missions, or challenge modes. No one is sure, but he's not trolling.

Hardly any games require Steam, and I don't buy games that require GFW or UbiSoft server checker. Steam is more or less a storefront than it is a standarized client, unlike Origin which is quite the opposite. I don't want my information sold nor do I want them to be able to take my games away just because I didn't log on for a while.

I don't think they're supported at all. When was the last time either of those games were even updated?
