I loaded a save from before that part to see again, and you are right, she IS a little short. Of course, I chose the sarcastic option "It's a Hawke family reunion" to which she replies "What's left of it" in a snippy tone. Granted this is the first time that Hawke sees her since their mother died, and he wasn't even brother enough to deliver the news to her himself, so I give her some slack for that. Not sure if diplomatic Hawke gets a better response. When you find her later during the abduction she's definitely relieved/happy to see you.

Na. Diplomatic Hawke also just get's a short "I'm alright" and that's it.

And yes, later she is happy. I will always prefer that to the whole warden path. Especially the Legacy aftermath talk. When she tells you that she has nothing left to live for. That's heartbreaking. Poor Bethany

Wow that's horrible!  I'm so glad I haven't gone that route with her.  I've only done one playthrough with Bethany because I prefer playing mages myself, I was going to do a new one to try her out as a Warden, but maybe now I'll pass on that!
