Glad to hear you're safe, Minos - just try to get some rest, (both yourself and Gibson).

Lichenstien - they are considering the military, but it's spread so thin already all we really have left is the TA.

I doubt they would do that, it doesn't realy send out the right message sending the army against 'youths'

The police simply don't have the numbers to deal with it. Especially if it continues to spread tonight. I honestly think the TA may need to be deployed if it gets any more widespread, just to bolster the police.

True, i thought you meant just the army

Just been hearing the PM speak about the rioting thug problem, he said there will be 16k police as opposed to the 6000 in recent nights so the manpower will be nearly trebled, hope it makes the difference. Military involvement opens a whole new can of worms, can only hope it doesn’t come to that.

Yeah... it'll work so long as the trend of the last few nights (riots springing up in other areas of London, and other cities) does not continue.

He also said nothing that nobody else hasn't in the last 2 hours since I woke up.

Sadly of course he hasn't because to put anything else in motion would most likely need to be passed through parliament which means nothing happening till Thursday at earliest when that meeting they are going to have takes place. So all we can really do now is hope in the next couple of days it doesn't escalate.

Sadly true.

Best I can suggest, try to stay safe if you're caught near any of it, and keep in contact with any friends/family you know are near where it's happening.

Added: Also, please keep us posted on here - will be worrying for people in areas affected by these riots if they flare up again tonight, be nice to hear that people are keeping safe.

Why are they rioting anyway? I'm in Glasgow and the news hasn't really said why.

I was listening to the radio and apparently they're rioting because they have no jobs and are on benefits... WTF? That is one of the worst excuses I've ever heard.

Saturday - people protested the alleged killing of a man by police (not sure of full details), appears that anarchists decided to hijack the protests - much like they did with student ones in the winter.

Just gotten worse since then.

To be honest, I think the lack of jobs and benefits is only part of it - people are furious at Westminster not paying attention to them.

I think they're unoccupied and hungry ...
We shall see more of these riots around the world in the next decades, especially in the countries with few mineral-oil-water resources.

It'd be nice if when they've cleared up the mess and calmed everybody down, the government rounds up all those that caused any property damage, and sells them to slave labour camps in China until they've repayed the damage they've caused.

I can't see how any form of usual 'justice' is going to work here - despite claims by the government. They'll be going through (known) cases in the courts for the next 10 years - and nevermind the hundreds who are robbing or attacking people who will likely never be caught.

Why China? Why not force them to rebuild the destroyed buildings by hand?

*shrug* I figure that it would be more of a punishment - they would be treated very poorly, and paid an incredibly low wage (sorry, I'm quite angry about this whole thing at the moment)

I suppose rebuilding the destroyed buildings by hand would be more constructive - but I doubt most of them have a clue about building, and building laws would not allow it.

Let my ask a question of you in that reguard....if some punk Teenager, that never really worked much less as a builder, which take my word for it is back breaking work that DOES take some skill and general knowladge, rebuilding your place of work or home?

I'ld be worried the roof would fall on me. As to Military Intervention. Not always so bad, it Sorted our Problems in NO, back when Katrina rolled in mighty damn fast. Though the Media was barred, and Black Water Mercs were also sent in. And no one has said what went on down in there. Though all the rapes and murders stoped might damn fast. Hopefuly the London riots don't go that far, though in terms of clashers versus the police it isn't from a lack of trying.

Where are they getting the extra 10k cops from tonight? Are they borrowing from the rest of the UK? Because its the middle of our yearly rioting season over here and the big one is on the 12th, that can get very nasty. If they are borrowing cops then the scum over here will find out and go more mental than usual knowing that the cops are spread thin and ours are getting no back up.

And this is why people are calling for the military to bolster their numbers. If riots start in other places (such as aparrently planned in Bournemouth) then police will most likely be recalled, and situation will only be made worse.

Why do I get the idea that our police chiefs and govt are clueless regarding the issue?:o

There are no words to describe the ****s who are rioting and destroying hardworking honest peoples' lives.
