The banksters, I think.  I kind of see the point he's making.

All quiet at the club in Burnley so far thankfully.

We're on edge even more here at home since the pub manager came upstairs in a panic 15 mins ago telling us he's closing the pub because there's a gang of lads over the road - who were immediately chased away in the opposite direction by the police. And haven't been seen since - nor has there been any trouble in town as far as we can tell (We are pretty much right at the end of the high street, like 2 minutes walk away from the shopping centre, such as it is)

The problem now seems to be that everyone is so on-edge they're jumping at shadows.
My stomach is not happy.

How are the Police patrols over there? They're patrolling everywhere here so it seems like they're ready for whatever may happen.

Stay safe.

Wow, things sound pretty bad, we had crazy riots in France a few years back that started after two kids died while being chased by the police and lasted for 3 weeks. Stay safe peeps !

Aowyn - apart from the cars chasing the group away earlier, haven't seen or heard any here, but over in burnley they've been escorting buses full of football fans onto the motorway apparently - there was a home game on earlier tonight.
They were notified of the threats to the club and other places in the town so have been on alert I believe - so far it's been more rumour and panic than anything else.
Looks like it's going to stay that way for tonight at least - hopefully anyway :)

I'm assuming he's talking about the bank bonuses and the recession.

Rioting is stupid, let's followup sadness with destruction and unnecessary death.

I don't want to derail this into a Politcical discussion and get it locked, but I just read an article stating that your PM was on vacation in Tuscany and wasn't originally going to come back to head the efforts to stop the rioting...is that true?

He came back today.

It seems from a lot of the Posts that the Thugs are giving up and going home now that the Police have decided to get serious.

Over here in the U.S. I have to say that many times these things are escalated by major Cities' Police Forces...I live in Philadelphia and the year the Republican National Convention was held here the Police were beating on and rounding up people before they even were able to reach the rally points for the Protests...there were thousands of arrests made and not a single successful Prosecution.

Old work colleague just wrote that she can see smoke coming from the old GLOSCAT in Gloucester. Not sure if it's started there now too.

I can't belive that it's spread all across the UK. The fact that all it is now is idiots who think it's an excuse to rob shops, set fire to buildings and endanger innocent people is disgraceful. All these thugs are doing is making it harder for other people their age who don't want to cause trouble. I can't walk down the street without getting dirty looks, just becasue I'm the same age as these rioters.

I wish all the people here effected by these riots the best.

EDIT: Sorry for the rant, just needed to vent.

Why are they rioting anyway? I'm in Glasgow and the news hasn't really said why.

It started because the police apparently shot a guy (it hasn't been confirmed or denied) and now its just tossers looting basicly.

I was listening to the radio and apparently they're rioting because they have no jobs and are on benefits... WTF? That is one of the worst excuses I've ever heard.

I don't care why their doing it nothing justifies this.
My heart goes out to everyone having to suffer through this.
And to those taking part if I believed in hell I would hope they go to the lowest place.

So...from what I can find it seems at least London was quieter last night.

Seems that not only the Police got more serious but Citizens began to organize to protect their neighborhoods.

I know it's not my Country, but I'll admit to being a little worried about this English Defense League I've heard mention of...

We're ALL worried about the EDL - bunch of low-life racist thugs.
They marched through my town a few months ago - a rown populated by a very large, very peacful and friendly muslim community. Thankfully the police were highly organised and for the most part the locals kept their dignity and didn't rise to the bait.

Thankfully nothing happened here last night, brother has gone up to the club to make sure everything is ok there  - hopefully we'll have a quiet night tonight.

Seems like the police has been given the authority to do whatever it deems necessary, with water cannons available within 24 hours notice. CCTV footage will also be used and/or published, privacy be damned.

Too little, too late, but at least it's something. I'm almost hoping those thugs will strike again today, and get their due...
