Depends. If deeply story relevant and not just a cheap hook, my Sheps will take a deep breath, steady themselves, find the culprit and CHARGE!!!!

If its a cheap hook - I'll take some time away from the game to seriously nerd rage all over BSN ;-)

As we observed on the suicide mission in ME2, different people will die depending on the choices you make (or none at all). However if/when Shepard's LI dies, there should be at least a Vader "NOOOOOOOOO" instead of just the same "tragic but we must push forward" reaction as if a non-LI dies.

My 2 cents.

At the end of the game, to a setting sun, he would finish putting the last bit of dirt on a grave on the homeworld, with an inscription that reads:

"Here lies Tali' Zorah Shepard vas Normandy, who gave her life defending all life in the galaxy."

Then Shepard would watch the sunset, look at her grave one last time, and leave, and in the background see the beginning of a quarian city in the making.

how did you come up with that im a little scarred but that would be a good way for the game to go

My MalShep would probably just shrug it off. My FemShep would ragequit on being nice and be Renegade for the rest of the game.

I would just pretend to be a depressed Shep then go back to focusing on the mission.

If Tali dies, my Shepard's saving the galaxy, paying his respects, and eventually making sure another Lazarus project happens. And if that doesn't work, then he's rejoining her in the afterlife.

If my Shepard's LI died he would throw her body into the freezer. Then proceed to sell cookies and lemonades on the Citadel until he had scrounged 4 billion credits together and then use it to kickstart project Lazarus 2,0.

Wow. Glad to see that I'm not the only one that has planned to make their character go a little nuts if something happens to their love interest.

If Garrus died, I think my Shepard would probably lose it a little. The mission would get done, certainly, but any impetus to survive it would be entirely removed, and she'd probably change almost instantly from total paragon to complete renegade. I have all kinds of personality/background reasons why I've decided this is acceptable for her character.

Not that I've given this thought, or anything.

If something like this were to happen in game I wish they'd mention it. In ME1 if you are romancing the person that died at Virmire the game doesn't even seem to notice it or make mention of it.

Maybe ME3 should have multiplayer so we can all go after each other's love interests.

Add their name to the list of people she cared for but failed to save. Fill her mind with thoughts about the mission, and the next mission, and the mission after that. And when all's done and there are no more battles to fight, finally allow herself to mourn them.

I was going to mention that there is always that stupid Lazarus project and then I realized that Shepard and friends left it in control of the renegade robots. Renegade robots that had been reprogramed by an agent of the Shadow Broker. The Shadow Broker who died in LotSB but will he still be dead?

Unless there is a scene of a Shepard frantically running for her/his life away from an explosion it never happened as far as I am concerned.
