I played NWN local vault for 7 years straight, from 2002 to 2009.  I just got NWN2 yesterday... and I'm confused.  I don't believe it.  I don't see any LV servers.

Not Siflige, nor Village of Creation, nor Imrryr, nor anything else.  Even Sigil is a server vault in NWN 2.  I guess I'm just too late to the party, hm?

Maybe you could indicate what your purpose in playing local vault servers is. Is it to play max level characters in hack-and-slash or PvP without having to level them?

In NWN2, many PWs have custom races, classes, etc--remember that haks load before character creation--which means that it's quite possible that allowing local vault characters would break stuff. Also, many PWs build content for the journey from low to high level, rather than focusing only on totally maxed characters with totally maxed gear.

My purpose in playing local vault servers is... or was, roleplaying.

NWN2 allows for far more significantly differing options in character creation than NWN... primarily due to the fact that custom content loads prior to character generation.

In addition, LV invariably ends up being survival of s/he who can bling their PC up the most.

Every server (at least 99.99999% of them anyways) in NWN2 is SV.

You could always start your own and see how it works out.

I'm not really sure how playing a role relates to playing a character from your local vault. I've roleplayed on server vault PWs very effectively. Is the issue that you want to get attached to your particular character? In my experience, a server vault playstyle provides a major counterweight to this: your character does their personal growth and adventuring where the community of that PW can witness and share in it. Experiences that your character had in PW A would be strange to bring into the setting of PW B.

I don't think the people that run the roleplaying servers like the idea of localvault characters. Really most PW owners just would have a huge headache if they were allowed.

Tends to reduce the atmosphere, and you will get people joining who are max level and have plenty of outlandish gear. Most admins prefer to meet a level 1 player and to have it evolve on their server based on what happens on that server. And it's hard to do the whole permadeath thing they seem to like if you can just come back any time. Not to mention they provide custom content so all the players on a given server can enjoy all the options you chose on your character ( outfits, heads, gear, etc ), not even getting into custom classes.

I am not into roleplaying myself, but i think your criteria is not going to find a PW that is good at roleplaying. Probably one that is more of a place to chat, or a arena type thing where folks with custom gear will fight each other.

I would suggest looking at the list of PW's and comparing them, visit their forums and find one which best matches your style of roleplay.
