I am at the quest where you go into the fade to rescue Connor at Redcliffe Castle. After the second time you battle the demon I can not get back out through the portal. It turns into the exit arrow but after i click the doorway the character just walks up to it and stands there. I can't find any other way out.

I've searched but cannot find anyone else who has had this particular problem. Any help would be appreciated. I'm trying to get Blood Magic on this play through.

First, check the quest forum or the Dragon Age wiki to confirm that you are going to the correct location. You do not enter and exit the area in the same place. Second, do you have any mods installed?

The first time you battle the demon in the fade you go back out the same portal... I don't have any mods installed just using the console.

Your best bet is probably a re-load of the area. Every once in a while the game will fail to correctly register the end of combat.
