I was playing through the Deep Roads section of the storyline yesterday and at point I fought a Hurlock/Genlock Emissary along with dozens of possessed corpses. Evidently this emissary had summoned these demons and was controlling them.
Now my question is this: can a darkspawn become possesed by a demon?
Obviously most darkspawn are driven by the Calling so probably do not sleep that often or encounter demons but they obviously have some connection to the Fade for them to perform magic. However, it is suggested in the Broken Circle questline that a demon can possess a mage just by overpowering them physically in the real world.
To me this suggests that if a darkspawn encountered a powerful enough demon and was beaten by it you would have an abomination, perhaps even a corrupted one;
I'm aware of only one time a darkspawn encounters a demon in its true form and that is The First and the Baroness in Awakening.
Demons and Darkspawn.

I think its certainly possible, particularly because dark Spawn dont have souls/spiritual identitys like the other races do.
Most dark Spawn mages have heavy investments into Spirit Magic to animate corpses. while alot of "Corpses" in the game are darkspawn Ghouls.
may wanna read more bout them here.

Possible, but I doubt a demon would do it. remember Avernus states that evn demons have a strong aversion to the taint and are weak and vulnerable against it. So I do not think a demon would really want to possess a darkspawn corpse.
As far as darkspawn emissaries animating the dead, I think its the same spell as the Warden can cast, which does not involve using a demon to inhabit a corpse, but animating it by a powerful and complex form of telekenisis, according to the description.

Demons have possessed darkspawn corpses (dead Ogre Commander in Awakening as one example). Actually that is a Shade, so I'm not sure if that counts...

Yeah, I think shades are kinda different. They possess tranquils, so perhaps that's the sort of entity that might inhabit a darkspawn corpse.

Codex entry on Shades claims they are demons who have adapted to the world and no longer require a host to get around. Who knows for sure though?
There's also Sophia in Soldier's Peak. She was a Grey Warden, and so tainted, but a demon is in her corpse. There's also Justice,Kristoff (dead) and Anders (alive).
But no cases we know of of demons inhabiting living darkspawn, I think, although there's been speculation vide the Chant that the Old Gods are themselves powerful demons, and it's the darkspawn who transform them into archdemons.

Semi-Related
In the Manga theres Darkspawn who are controled with Blood Magic into servants. Since demons know this magic they could use that as a option.

IIRC, darkspawn magic is not like human/elven/kossith magic. It's "fueled by the taint" or something, to explain why genlocks can have emissaries but dwarves don't have mages.
If they don't have a mage's connection to the Fade, they should be safe from possession.
(It's my opinion that the possession of the Tranquil in Broken Circle is an example of gameplay stepping on lore, just like the mana-recharging lyrium veins in Paragon of Her Kind. According to the lore, touching those should kill your mages dead, not zap them full of mana. Similarly, I don't think those Tranquil should have been possessable. YMMV.)

If at all.

Not quite. Avernus says that because blood magic comes from demons, they were able to counteract all of his attempts to drive them out of the fortress. But the darkspawn taint was unknown to them, and if his guess was correct, there was vast untapped power to be found in tainted blood.
I believe David Gaider once said that demons had never possessed a darkspawn emissary. Or if they had, nobody knows about it.
Demons and darkspawn seem to acknowledge the existence of each other — the Mother at least knew enough of the Fade that she could send the Warden there, and the Architect was able to speak to other mages in the Fade — but they don't really consider each other to be all that important.
