So I've just started my first playthrough of DA2 and was wondering what fate has most impact to the story, or makes most sense to a mage Hawke? Does templar Carver have a better impact to the story than him being a Grey Warden or is it the other way around?

Just a simple answer whether I should choose Carver to become a templar or a Warden.

Warden. Templar Carver is just a colossal ******. And no, not really. You basically see him two times for a few lines each. Warden Carver appears many more times.

depends who you want to side with in the end

*SPOILERS*
If your siding with the mages, i personally recommend making him a templar since the whole rivaling each other via factions is cool imo. otherwise if you siding with templars or want him to be happier then make him a warden

Warden Carver has a bit more dialogue than templar carver but both are good, for more story relevence Templar makes sense since the plot is Mage vs Templars.. But Warden carver is more relevent for the dlc legacy

Yeah, Legacy makes Warden Carver more of a better choice. Templar would have been cool to b/c of the - as you said - templar vs. mages.

Just wondering that Warden Carver would be very similiar to Warden Bethany so it really makes me uncertain...

Warden Carver and Warden Bethany are incredibly different people by how they take being a Warden.

So templar Carver doesn't really have a bigger role than the Warden carver in DA2? If that's the case, I'm gonna roll Warden Carver

Templar Carver has a few minor cameos and some lines in Legacy, but Warden Carver has many more cameos, more lines, and whatnot.

Especially when you become Champion and then do Legacy. Carver says that they were meant for greatness, him being a Warden and Hawke being Champion.

In the intro scene where you test your character(and before you can edit it), Carver's wearing Warden armor. That's probably a subtle hint from the devs that canon Carver is a warden.

I prefer making Carver a Warden. I think it's a better path for him. He matures a lot after becoming a Warden, and he seems to actually realize that being in Hawke's shadow was more due to his inaction than his brother/sister upshowing him.

He's not nearly as angry, or as big of a ****** as a Warden.

If you want to attempt going friendship path with him, you should make him a Warden. If you enjoy the sibling rivalry aspect, make him a templar.

I prefer Carver as a Warden. Templar Carver is just a slap in the face.

I know that you can do Legacy and Carver may give you +25 Friendship. Apparently that's how much some other people got.

Templar Carver is growing on me. He lives up to his name's legacy (in a sense) in that. He's not happy though...and I like my Carver happy.

True statement. I used diplomatic conversation choices with Carver during Malcolm's Will and got the +25.

Edit: I always make Carver a Warden. I haven't tried making him a Templar. I'd say that I'd try it in my next playthrough, but apparently there is a 10-game cap on XBox, and I'm there. (Maybe I can save on a different drive...hmm...)

The one time I played as a mage, I didn't particularly like Templars, so Carver ending up as a Warden seemed like the best outcome. On the other hand, making Carver into a Warden only happens with a specific set of circumstances that I just happened to stumble into, so I guess I got lucky... I don't know how much sense it would make for the story if the sibling always had the same fate, as events unfold differently (sometimes). Anyway, that's kind of a side issue... The simplest answer is just make him a Warden so there's no ongoing conflict with his mage sibling... or at least, less conflict than normal with Carver.

Also, I don't know anything about Carver as a Templar, but I agree that he did seem to enjoy being a Warden.

Spoiler:

I played a mage and made Carver a Templar. He was really hatefull to me for a time, but when Meridith went crazy Carver refused to fight me, and ended up fighting Meridith with me and my party.

A funny thing, Cullin also fought with me against Meridith.

Hopefully Templar Carver gets recruited into the Wardens sometime after DA2. :P

I have a feeling that Carver, Hawke, and the whole group would be happy to "never" see a Templar or a Chantry again.

Warden Carver is somewhat tolerable....somewhat. Templar Carver should just fall on his sword  It's funny you gotta do the opposite things with Carver that you do with Bethany.

Well they won't be seeing the Kirkwall Chantry again.  Nobody will for that matter.

He will always be a Warden...

I did 1 templar Carver and HATED it. I sided with the mages and didn't even get a final conversation with him.

Carver certainly seems more redeeming as a Warden, and better looking armor! :D
The story playes out better too imo, and makes for some nice and challenging Deep Road fights if he's the only tank.
