So, um, what is this a case of? Idle hands.. Destructive culture... what? It doesn't seem to resemble the government related stuff in Greece.

Criminal behaviour. There are various excuses being offered by the Left of social injustice but I'm having none of it. NO excuse for this sort of thing.

Indeed. They probably say that the height limit on a McDonald's playplace is social injustice...

Well, good luck, and don't leave home without a handy sidearm! :?

Guns aren't legal in the UK (except for hunting weapons) So that's unlikely, lol. Although some people still can get them (evident by the shooting the other night by a rioter, and the guy who had a gun that got shot by police)

apart from reading about there being a riot in the UK on a newspaper headline I've heard nothing about it and frankly don't care, they'll get some teargas and calm down sooner or later.

There are deep socio-economic problems that must be solved if these riots are to never happen again. I am afraid that Cameron's fist-pounding demonstrates that he, his government, and society at large doesn't understand why Britain has turned into the dystopian world seen in "A Clockwork Orange."

There is a fascinating article on the New York Times which gives some insight into the minds of these rioters.

The rioters are disillusioned, disenfranchised young people who don't believe they have any future. They sit idly, unemployed, watching the clock tick day by day, subsisting on government handouts and subsidies. It only takes a spark to get them riled up. What the government needs to do now is to show that it cares.

Furthermore, the fact that parents can't exert any control over their children is a demonstration of the decline of morality across all stratas of British society. The MPs lie about their expenses and relations with the media, the police lie about who they arrest and kill, and the disenfranchised poor steal with impunity.

I fear this - this disease of poor morals and impunity may spread to the United States.

Yeah, except it's taken over the whole country and is happening in just about every single city and town. People aren't afraid of the law, some people are turning into vigalantie's to fight the looters, and there have been four murders related to the violence. This isn't going to be as simple as most riots.

I've heard people mention 'It' could be the start of a revolution'' Let's hope they're wrong, although this country clearly needs change, but these looters are the ones in the wrong here, and they're turning the rest of the country on them as they're nothing more than looters.

This junk happens in every country. Multiple tensions combines with circumstance and sparks an act of violence then you get various radical groups climbing out of every crack in the floor trying to paste their "cause" on it to try to make it something bigger than it really is.

There should've been a public announcement that looters would be shot on sight.

If they are going to act like primates, then they will be put down like primates.

What is he to do? He can't turn a blind eye. Law and order must be established and the rioters punished before any potential grievances can be heard. You may give reasons for their behaviour, but try telling that to the people who have had their businesses destroyed. It is certainly no excuse.

The PM has authorised the police to shoot looters with rubber bullets.

Pretty much agree with this. Add to the fact that not all of them are actually poor, it has been confirmed that a 31 year old school teacher has pleaded guilty for taking part in the riots.

I agree. But it seems that most of the looters are getting off easy. I heard that one of the looters arrested has already been released from custody (granted, he only stole a few shirts).

But if Cameron believes that all he has to do is to get some more police on the street, then he is wrong. There must be a long term strategy to combat the impunity and criminality which infects nearly all of Britain. It begins by acknowledging the problems of the poor and the undereducated and creating social programs which integrates this underclass into society at large.

This is true, alot of them have. I suspect they just want the main culprits, seeing as most of ower prisons are now full. This is one of the reasons why many people are choosing to fight back.

Decades of liberal thinking and concern over "human rights" have encouraged the police not to use them.

I've got to say I did smile at what I read earlier today. :)

Comment from the manchester evening news.
I am a police officer in GMP. Do you not think we would like nothing better than to hand out some proper justice to these mindless idiots. I live and work in this city...This is OUR CITY !
You need to vent your frustration at the government. Human rights and Mr Cameron dictate what we can and can't do.
Get behind the police...the true heroes of this country who do this kind of stuff every single day and fail to get the recognition we deserve...whilst working for peanuts, with a pay cut imment..disgraceful

And a readers reply.
Andrew Swettenham, if you don't like the terms and conditions of your job, go and get a different one.
As someone who works in the private sector, generating the tax revenue that you live on, I'm not impressed by your inflated sense of entitlement.

BBC still calling them protesters. Pff, call these rats what they are, opportunistic scumbags who just want an excuse to loot and steal from working people.

Bear in mind it's the same BBC who issued an edict to its staff saying the 7th July bombers weren't to be referred to as "terrorists".  Can't quite work out the rationale behind that sort of thing.

Terrorist
–noun
1.
a person, usually a member of a group, who uses or advocates terrorism.
2.
a person who terrorizes  or frightens others.
3.
(formerly) a member of a political group in russia aiming at the demoralization of the government by terror.

Describes the 7/7 bombers to me.

I'm just gonna say it right now.  I honestly believe these rioters are terrorists.
Think about it.
They are capitlizing on a certain thing to use fear to do what they want.
They are enjoying this.  Most terrorists have a religious or political excuse for ther acts... what are these low lifes excuse?

Yesterday, I saw a video of someone who successfully threw brick at a police officer's head. I think it was on SkyTV. The police do face a lot of dangers out there.

People are asking why did this happen, how could they do what they do.

If they paid attention to the plight of others they would have seen it coming. Most socioligists who have been interviewed say they knew it was coming, most in the communities effected knew it was coming.

Its the ignorance of the people that allowed this to happen.

Cameron says that these people have no place in society - they dont live in his society, it is not theirs, that is why they care not for what they are doing, its not their society they are trashing.

You cannot just throw people to one side at an early age and forget about them. Most of these people live on sink estates and as long as they stay there the masses dont care, see nothing, hear nothing, say nothing. But once these young people leave the estates and enter the world of camerons society and make themselves heard and seen the masses call for the army, the water cannon and rubber bullets.

Its their ignorance that should be contained, these ignorant sheep should be ashamed, they should be named and shamed.

I suspect it may be quiet tonight, that the sting has been taken out of it but i dont think it will stay that way for long.

P.S. I believe someone mentioned that they are stealing from the working man, I can tell you now as a 32 year old working man who has worked hard since leaving school, that what these people are doing does not even come close to what the banks and government have done to me with their taxes, interest, inflation and overdraft charges, these are the true thieves in today's society.

Over a hundred years ago our government along with many of the worlds governments handed way to much power to the banks, they basically started a pyramid scheme based around fractional reserve banking, but like any pyramid scheme things were predicted to go wrong in the end and they have, this is where we are... in a system of perpetual debt that can never be paid off, for if the debt does get removed then so does all money in circulation which will cause a collapse from the other end. (and this is not made any worse or better by who is in power either, it is an unavoidable consequence of the monetary system)

All I see is people complaining that people who are unemployed are bringing the country to it's knees because those that work have to keep them, but then they ignore or fail to realise that we pay over 50 billion a year just on interest, and that is before we even cut into the 950 billion we owe.

I think what your government needs to do is show these cockroaches that they can't continue to steal from the working class and get away with it. These leeches live off of welfare, and now they think they're entitled to more. There is a similar mindset that is growing quickly here in America, fueled by our leaders.

Really? The Republicans here have made the dismantlement of the welfare state a priority.

Sometimes I fear we've become too tolerant of douchebaggery in the West.

As a whole society has changed for the better in many regards since the 19th Century, but watching the news reports of what is going on in the UK, makes me long for the days when a riot ended like this:

From about 3:48 to 5:25...

Let loose the British Army and those who refuse to disperse be taught a fearful bloody lesson in slaughter.
