How will there be any time for new romances to develop?

Well, no game is perfect and no worries. I was just clarifying since it's hard to communicate semantics and impressions over the internet sometimes.Golden Owl wrote...
Just my polite way of saying I really, really do not like any of the choices I have been given....Tali is alright, but the logistics with her would be a nightmare in reality, plus a human closer to that nature would be really nice.
No Enmystic, if it sounded like I was accusing you of complaining about pandering, I apologise, thats not what I meant...I was just being a little coldly factual about what I would personally expect, as I really don't want quality of gameplay adjusted to any lesser for what I want, that is all....It would be very nice to get the full treatment, I just wouldn't ask BW for it.
No lesser quality, absolutely not, but Bioware has some high standards to live up to. With this whole "new romance" thing the quality of new romances may have to bend to dead lines which can end badly.

This is why I would like it to be a character we already know and possibly have some back ground with....I feel Shep (those with DLC anyway) has built a back ground with Kasumi...another candidate would be Gianna (that kiss knocked my Sheps socks off...:-)...)...Other players have also suggested Shiala and Aria....I'm speaking primarily from a hetro manSheps point of view of course, as thats the Shep I run....otherwise the lists I have seen would overwhelm my post.

If you think that what happens in the game is real time, than yes, there will be no time.
Personaly I believe that they weren't chasing Saren in ME1 for 40 hours, I think they were traveling for months.
You notice how getting from some clusters to other clusters has more then a straight line relay jump? That means you're switching relays which also means several hours travel even without having to drop out of FTL in the heliosphere of a star (FTL estimates for travel time is around 0.5 Light Years an hour, or around 8 hours from Sol to Proxima Centauri).
We're talking months of travel in ME1... maybe around 4 to 6 months if you did all the side quests. ME2 takes place over a much shorter time span, so probably 2-3 months there.
Nice to see some numbers, I only guessed.
So I think it's a save to assume that the Reaper war will be for months. So there is a lot of time for romance.
It's not like Shepard jumps from Battlezone to Battlezone, only the player does that.

wars are all about a whole ton of nothing, then a whole ton of crap happening all at once, then a whole ton of nothing again. ask any soldier. "its really boring most of the time, except when something happens, but then its over in a couple minutes"

Also there probably won't be a female turian, which would have been cool.

I fear Bioware caved into the "I should be able to bang whomever I want" Shepard-sexual demanding crowd in ME2. Am I the only one who wants defined characters who don't always want to sleep with Shepard? If your expecting anything of better quality than ME2's you're fooling yourself.

YES YES YES. You're not alone on this one.

I don't have a big problem with new romance option, while I'd really have just liked the current romances get more dialogue, I think they can do a good job with the new romance options if they want to.

Oh look, here they are again, reminding everyone how they don't want anything s/s for Kaidan and others from ME 1. Their just so fragile and sensitive that they won't be able to handle male Shep hitting on Kaidan or Garrus. But femShep is welcome to hit on Ashley, right? <_<

This would be good for me, but if the idea is to bring in a new romance for new players, they wouldn't necessarily know who Shiala or Aria is.

Now here comes the crowd defending the Shepard-sexual idea. Hitting on Garrus? Come on. Kaidan is one thing but Garrus is insanity.
No I don't support Ashley being an option for FemShep, despite all of the excuses "why it could be possible" people will make it doesn't fit her character.

I personally am a little undecided in regards to the new Romance Options Casey mentioned the way I figure it will end up being like this.
Whole New Character Romances:
1.James Vega
2.??????
3.??????
4.??????
5.??????
Known Character Romances:
1.Kasumi Goto - DLC/could die in suicide mission (you won't have her if you never bought DLC and even if you did, she could be dead)
2.Kelly Chambers - possible suicide mission death
3.Samara/Morinth- possible suicide mission death/refused romance due to code/kills through sex
4.Shiala - doesn't exist for PS3 players/people who started in ME2, can be killed in ME1
5.Joker - good option
6.Wrex/Wreave - could be killed/ could'nt care less about humans/ exactly how would krogan romance work?
7.Grunt - can die in suicide mission/ never be let out of his tank/ krogan romance mechanics?
8.Zaeed Massani - DLC/can die in suicide mission/ can be killed on his loyalty mission
9.Mordin Solus - can die in suicide mission/salarians are supposed to be assexual
10.Ken - can die in suicide mission
11.Gabby - can die in suicide mission even easier then Ken
12.Gianna Parasini - doesn't exist for PS3 players/people who started in ME2, can die in ME1
13.Emily Wong - possible option, will require some maneuvring to put her within Shepards reach beleivably.
14.Rana Thanoptis - doesn't exist for PS3 players/people who started in ME2, can be killed in in ME1

edited for qualifiers and challenges for implementation.
new characters/characters that can survive every single game (like Joker or Emily Wong) are the easiest to implement because they exist in 100% of all the games, new or imports. before Dragon Age gets mentioned, since in both games you could refuse to recruit some of the characters, all of the potential LI's were available for all to recruit. you could make a choice not to, but they started out existing in every single game.
I guess Sebastian is a possible exception but I don't think he's concidered to be a full out romance.

The funny thing about that, is he is the only one talking about getting married lol.
I could agree with that, it was interesting that there was someone in DA2 and ME2 that couldn't be romanced and the former was presented in a more interesting way. Its interesting how much people talk about characters being their own person around the ship and all, but still demand they cave to all of Shepard's sexual whims.ReconTeam wrote...

It not about that...it's about having a real choice....so far aside from Tali, manShep has a choice of carbon copies...there are those of us who really do not find 'ruthless' a redeeming quality...As for Tali, I seriously question Shep on that decision....Just asking for some one who's actually different, we have enough 'ruthless'.ReconTeam wrote...

Kaidan/Ash; Liara; Jack; Miranda; Garrus; Tali; Thane; Jacob; Kelly - sort of.
Don't think I missed anyone. That's 8 choices, 9 if you count Kelly and still some people are not happy. I have no problem with adding the two new ones in ME3, but ME2 had way too many options, imo and I'm a giant romance fan, it's the main reason I'll buy a BioWare game before I buy any other rpg game But, 2 or 3 new ones in ME2 (a bisexual, a gay and a lesbian would have been interesting) and 2 or 3 new ones in ME 3 would have been fine.
They are never ever ever going to make everyone happy, Make everyone on the team a possible LI and the relationship is going to be watered down and that would be a sad sad thing and pretty darn boring.
IMO, for future games, since it's too late for ME series, they would be better off focusing on fewer, 6 is a nice number - 2 straight (M and F), 1 gay; 1 lesbian; 2 bisexual and make those 6 more interesting with more dialogue and humor plus make them available as friends if you don't want to do the romance. I'd LOVE to have an evil romance who can't be turned good and a good character who couldn't be turned evil. Don't expect that to ever happen, but I would find it interesting.
I don't expect to always like the romance options but they are still fun to do. I loved Alistair, hated his romance ending. Zev was not my type but I loved his ending, DA2 - were ok, but I would much rather have seen them be specific LI for specific Hawks, I don't like every character wanting to have sex with my character, I like being told, sorry your not my type. Then I'll play a game where I am their type. KOTOR, loved both, great dialog and humor. Jade Empire fun romance options, including the 3some. BG had interesting romance options and while I didn't care of NWNights options, because I like taking my LI with me, they were ok.
I like romance in the game, it makes it far more interesting in a story driven game and BioWare does a good job. But I'd rather have fewer choices with more interesting conversations.
As far as the original topic, I have no problem with bringing in one or two new romances in ME3 and if they want to I do believe the writers will do a good job with the romance development. I do hope they have a friendship path with these two characters.
