I know this has come up many times but for the life of me i cannot decide on a class to play. I end up going so far then deleteting them for some reason!

What is your favourite?

Oddly enough, the LAST class I expected to be my favorite was the warrior. But after playing a mage, then an archer rogue, then a dual weild rogue, I tried a sword and sheild warrior, and that turned out to be my favorite so far, with the dual weild rogue a second. I have just started a 2H warrior, so I cannot comment on that. Usually, mage is my favorite, and it was fun, but I'm enjoying the more in-your-face combat this time. I'm sure there will be lots of different opinions on this.

Good luck!

Play them all. Every class has it's strong and weak points.

You'll probably enjoy the game more if you don't worry so much about trying to do everything perfectly during a single playthrough.

I'm currently playing a two handed warrior and it's fun, doing big, aoe damage with my large pointy stick. My Hawke does good damage, is durable, and most of the warrior armor looks nice.

make a party with aveline, isabela, and mage hawke. and who ever else.
when you feel like playing a rogue, just use isabela.
when you feel like playing a warrior, just use aveline.
when you feel like playing a mage, just use your mage.

For NM level, i like DW rogue then mage.
For Hard level, i like warrior SnS and warrior 2h.
for normal level, i like all of them.
It is depending on the level of game-play difficulty .. at least for me.

They all have fun abilities, I went through the game with an archer, it was real fun. Rogues have a lot of tricks like stealth, teleports into backstabs....I thought archer was a good starting point, because I could stand away from the battle with Merrill next to me, keeping an eye on Aveline.

Rogue, mix DW/Archer and Shadow/Assassin specs

I love playing as Aggressive!Hawke...I guess that's 'bad' by your definition. :innocent:

The trick is to know what exactly Hawke will say. Sometimes the "red" choice will make you an a-hole, but sometimes it's the most normal/sensible of the three. And in a lot of conversations you can slalom the conversation by being nice but still getting rivalry.

As for the original question - I'm gonna go and suggest you do NOT play a mage. While in theory it should be the more interesting option it ends up being the least immersive from a role-playing perspective in my opinion, since most npcs don't really react to it. I think if you're not a mage it's also harder to pick a side.

Honestly, I enjoyed playing the warrior the best. Which SHOCKED me.

I played THREE mages before I decided to crack the seal on the warrior class (I wanted to meet Bethany) with Sheridan Hawke. I learned to tweak the Tactics, then pretty much programmed them from scratch for each character, and used my warrior as a movable barricade. Worked like a charm in combat. And he was roguishly handsome, and he romanced Isabela, which is a fun story arc, and he was still pro-mage, so he was an enjoyable character all the way around. Sheridan Hawke was the only character I played through Legacy with, I'm pretty much "over it" when it comes to mages. It's so much better to simply program the mages to use their brains (and potions) and let the warrior do the work of controlling the battlefield.

Im gonna guess this is a general thing in your day to day as well.

pick up a pair of dice.

2-5 = good nature
6-9 = sarcastic
10-12 = pragmatic

Do Sarcastic Mage Hawke it makes the game tons more interesting on your first playthrough... and might even have you finish it, some dialogue with Sarcastic hawk is hilarious.. :)

I liked shadow/assassin rogues myself, the burst damage gibbery is quite satisfying from time to time. Some people simply need assassinating, wouldn't you agree Quentin?

This.  Sarcastic mage is outstanding.  BTW, my sarcastic mage is Hudson Hawke.  Long live Bruce Willis.

I dunno about Bad!Hawke. I tend to play naughty!Hawke, which isn't really the same thing. As for the OP's question, it really boils down to a matter of preference and style. I prefer Bethany over Carver, so I have played more rogues 'n fighters than mages.

As other have said, the aggressive/direct dialogues do not really have anything to do with good or bad.

I can never bring myself to play an evil-for-the-giggles character either (grey or simply pragmatic, sure, but no drowning kittens with no gain please), and I absolutely adore the "direct" dialogues for situations where Hawke (whatever the main tone for that character) wouldn't coddle a person or call a B. S. position as just that.  :)

I really like a few different classes.

Blood/Force/Elemental mage is very fun and pretty damn powerful imo. Keep in mind as a mage you could probably achieve an insanely high +% fire dmg. (well any cass for that matter) I love firestorm now, especially with a Gravity ring.

I just finished a shadow/assassin archer rogue and wow is all I got to say. Its raining fiery arrows of death. This character had 100% crit chance +300+% crit dmg 50ish% fire dmg with a pimped out Hoods Messenger bow. The game really became trivial for any mobs not immune to fire, and by the end Iddn't bother with tactics much. Your worst hit is over 1000 dmg by the time u reach the low 20s. I've seen assassinate hit a brittle target for over 30k.

I think from now on I'll stick with DW rogues simply because its more exciting and dangerous being in melee.

Warriors are very powerful whether 1h or 2h. Use elemental dmg weapons(end game this means Sataareth, Edge of Night, Bloom or Celebrant. I like sataareth because of how much fire dmg bonuses u get. My problem with warriors is a) I always use basically the same reaver/berserker setup by the mid to late game, and B) hacking everything to pieces with allies on auto-pilot tactics gets me kinda bored.

Warrior, Two-Handed, all the way!  The Red icon options are better to me than the Purple and Green ones.

This Berserk build is awesome

It will just take a while to unleash the awesome.
