I just bought KotOR and the game kept on crashing every few minutes. I'm running it on Windows XP with a nVidia Geforce 8500 GT card, patched with the latest driver (although the game config says my driver is old and I should update the Detonator driver, LOL).
Today I found a bugfix for these crashes, by adding this line Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1 under [Graphic Options] in the SWKOTOR.ini file.
Kudo's to James A. Cooley and juansaman for posting this solution on the internet. I just copied it to here, because this is the place i go to to find solutions and I guess more people would do so as well.

Generally, the game works best with older drivers dating back 2-3 years when you have a Geforce card. The launcher's configurator is looking at the last digit in the year (at least that's my guess) and treating it as "2001", two years older than the game is.Son of Imoen wrote...

Good find on the fix to allow using newer drivers.
